Leon Washington Cut per SMY Boston Globe

Boston Globe is reporting that Leon Washington has been cut by the Patriots. Can't say I'm surprised by the news.

I thought he looked like he lost multiple steps from his Jets day. Wasn't very impressed with him and not surprised at all.

My only surprise was that he wasn't cut yesterday. He did nothing during pre season to warrant keeping him and that was too bad.

Not so surprised about Washington. He didn't seem to have the burst of a youngster any more. The more I looked at that sideline pass from Mallett on Thursday, the more it looked to me that Vereen, KF or a scat back who's now in San Diego would have caught it. Washington was slow and didn't stretch out for it.

Svitek and Cole, on the other hand ...

Cole looked so much better to me the other night (but what do I know?)

I don’t think they will cut Svitek unless he has a serious injury that will prevent him from playing in week 1, the OL we’ve added are interior players, meaning we’d only have Cannon who could play tackle, which would limit us in being able to use him as a starter at RG.

Saw Svitek limping in the Giants game, so maybe he's just getting a day off. Would be surprised if they cut him given the depth on the OL and the fact that he is a swing Tackle and can play guard in a pinch.

Would also be surprised if Cole was cut at this point unless the Pats have signed a veteran corner to take his place.

Sorry Washington didn't work out as well. Would like to have seen a dynamic KR, but I'm not convinced he still fits that category.

and especially so because ppl love to say that BB is willing to dedicate roster spots to real good ST guys, and yet what does that matter when he does it for a gunner, who can be replaced so much easier than a premier KR, which according to last year, Washington was the 2nd best in the NFL

so interesting move by BB, we all knew though that he was not going to go into the season with 6 rb's, and the biggest reason i think that washington is gone is because develin impressed so much as a FB

this team hasnt had one of those in years, and i dont think bb went into preseason thinking he would keep one, but this kid must have shown some real good stuff, because now we are back to having a FB

and i doubt Hooman stays on the roster for too much longer as well

this washington move i think has quite a few implications on multiple aspects of BB's thinking

On what basis? He looked steps slow and his trademark explosiveness looked all but sapped. Many people were shocked that he even made the roster initially.

I was fine when Washington was signed as a replacement for Woodhead. He was to share Woodhead's role with Vereen.

It never made sense to me that the team was going to carry a dedicated kick returner, especially given the change in rules and Belichick's willingness to use starters as kick returners. The only question I have is why this didn't happen yesterday.

Also, as I said in another thread, I had only one WTF moment in the cutting of the 24 players. I was amazed that we carried 6 running backs. Now that anomaly has been corrected.

So that's 2 out of the 3 not at practice that were cut. I wonder if Svitek's absence is injury-related like others have stated, or if he's been cut too.
