Will be interesting to see who replaces Graham on the Patriots staff. Here's one guess - Stephen Belichick. He worked with Graham a lot.

TBH, I don't know much about Belichick Jr., but I would MUCH rather have an actual ex-LB player, coach the LBs. Actual playing experience cannot be understated enough. I'd like to see Mayo taking over.

While I appreciate the idea what makes anyone think that a player can just transition into coaching one of the elite teams of the NFL with no previous experience whatsoever ? I understand that Mayo is a great player and has a lot of insight, but giving him a LB coaching job on the Patriots you are not throwing someone who has not shown yet that he can swim into a swimming pool but into an ocean.

Meh. Pepper Johnson came right in and coached. Was an Asst LB coach for a year and then became the LB coach.

After Pepper Johnson left any coach leaving does not surprise me.

Clear $$$ situation IMO.

The Pepper one I got. He was here for 13 years and was passed over 3 times.

Yea I think it was about the $$ too and less about Patricia sticking around.

Take a good look at the current coaching staff. All of them lack major college or pro playing experience.

This seems very surprising, especially because he is leaving for a linear position.

Maybe he got a substantial pay raise. It's a fine reason to switch employers.

I think Mayo gives it another shot elsewhere or comes back here on a big discount. Don't think he's ready to retire yet. He also might not be ready for that big of a role yet. Remember, Bill Belichick himself only played at the college level.

but he has done such a good job with the Pats linebackers that I would think they would try and keep him.

Perhaps, I just think that BB Jr. is too young to take over such a position.

Maybe. Hes in his mid-20s. Never know how young kids respond to promotions. There will absolutely be growing pains.

He coached two budding ProBowlers. He was clearly well respected and thought of highly here.

If you think back a couple of years, this could also describe Brian Ferentz in 2011, who went back to coach with his dad.

Except for this guy:

I just think he believes he might be stuck in NE behind Patricia (and Belichick) and probably thought this gave him a better opportunity to become a DC.

Mayo underwent surgery on his pectoral muscle. He's not ready to stop playing yet.

If there was any position on the team we could afford to take a shot on a younger coach, it's definitely LB.

And how did Belichick did as a LB coach when he first started?
I have no idea what your point is here. Steve has been a coaching assistant for 4 years, the next step up is to be a position coach.

Prediction: Mayo retires (after 3 straight injuries that needed surgery) and becomes the LB coach

Mayo isn't even 30 years old yet, why does everyone have him retiring

Color me skeptic
