When this guy gets into the open field, he's gone! Who says you need to run people over when you can run around them or away from them. And people are saying he doesn't have power? He looks good to me. If he is there, the Pats have to take him at #21. Screw the huge, slow running backs that break down when their 30 because they need so many carries to get their yards or say "fit" the Pats offense. Every team needs a game breaker!

P.S. I still have some love for Corey Dillon.

Didn't see any power running in this footage. Maybe he's a good pick at 21, but I dunno. This "every team needs a gamebreaker" rubric is fine until you're protecting a lead in the fourth quarter and you need six or seven minutes to disappear off the clock. He does look good there, but it's a highlight reel, and it's against college level opponents. But then, I'm nobody's scout.

It's always "hot" around draft time to "need" a big strong fast receiver or a "blue chip can't miss" back (uh, like Kijana Carter?) in the first round. Fans love it. If we "need" guys at skill positions we can watch splashy highlight films and hope we get "the" guy. Then we can salivate for four months, follow "the" guy in camp, and wait expectantly until "the" guy gets in the game. Oh, yay. Know what? When Mankins and Kaczur got in, I didn't pop open any champagne. But they showed what they had.

All that said... he might be the guy. Hate to say "wait and see," but wait and see is all you can say about a Pats draft.

Guy looks totaly average..........looks slow, showed no power and didn't show me one thing out of the ordinary.

Anyone can look great and fast and strong and amazing playing college football. Even NEM!

What were his times at the Combine?

I tend to agree with you, but it's hard to judge on the basis of that reel.

Let's keep our options open at #21.....

Skinny, quick but went down easy. I hope he has a better highlight reel than that.

I'm more interested in his offensive line.

I like Maroney too -- he could put on some pounds in camp as needed -- but power running is as much about attitude and technique as it is about size.

Of all the RBs he might be likeliest to be the guy at #21??? Personally tho I'd rather see us pass on a 1st round RB this year and go with a LB.

As I look at us relative to the competition, I can't bring myself to line up on the Tobin Bridge. It's always fun to play the game of "which great players did we pass over for Bethel Johnson" -- but I could put together a list from other teams that would be even more hysterical than ours.

To have so many picks and cap flexibility (and relatively solid management calling the shots)...the possibilities are endless.

I'd be surprised if we don't see some hardcore wheeling and dealing come draft day -- we're in position to trade way up for a core addition to the team -- or trade down and infuse training camp with a slew of new blood and potential contributors -- which we'll probably have either way.

I have no clue how they'll play this and neither does our favorite mousse-boy Kiper....though I enjoy each and every ESPN character as much as the next guy -- my personal fav is Chris "he who knows what teams want him too" Mortenson.

Early on in the BB regime the goal seemed to be drafting the best value REGARDLESS of need (all bad teams should draft this way), but as the team has evolved/matured I can see them settling into a more need-based or maintenance draft strategy (still keeping an eye to value -- such as finding a first round replacement for Andruzzi last year). Whatever the philosophy is or was, there certainly doesn't seem to be a pattern, other than BB seems to have way too much fun at mocking the prognosticators.

I'd rather have a power runner than a speedster... someone who can consistently get you 3-4-5-6 yards every touch is more valuable than someone who might break one for 20 but almost might get stuffed at the line.

I'm no scout, but he just doesn't look like a particularly good pro RB.

Maroney is a player who I would not be dissapointed if we drafted, but I feel there could be better selections. He does have great speed and can take the ball to the next level, but you have to wonder how much of it was because of the great blocking he recieved. Marion Barber and Gary Russell also put up big numbers with him, but at least Barber had a solid rookie year for the Cowboys. I think if we drafted him it would all depend on what Belichick felt about our O-line. If they could create the holes for him that Minnesota did, then it might be worth it.

In the videos I've seen thus far, Maroney looks pretty decent. I would not be dissapointed with him at #21. However, Joseph Addai might be even better value if he falls through to the 2nd round and we snatch him at that point. We could use our first rounder on a premium defensive player.

Is it just me or does he have toothpicks for arms? It was tough to tell in the video.
