Last years roster players you'd expect to be cut...

Based on opinion of what I prefer. That is all.

Thread is about expectations not preferences

If you seriously expect Talib to be cut you should probably start actually watching nfl games and not just reading Tiger Beat when Tebow is on the cover.

Is there a particular football reason you care to add to your what I prefer qualification?. Talib is 6'1, 205. Only Ras-I Dowling is of comparable size. Talib's job is to mark WR1 guys such as Calvin Johnson (6'5, 236), Andre Johnson (6'3, 230) and AJ Green (6'4, 207). Talib can play man, he can press, he can play zone and he has some ball skills.

I cannot think of a supportable football reason that suggests or expects Talib should be cut.

Re: Re: Last years roster players you'd expect to be cut...

Before I'd cut either Ebner or Fells I'd cut Marquis Cole and Jeff Tarpinian.

Why?

The startable LBs are now 6 deep, Mayo, Hightower, Spikes, Collins, Fletcher and A. Wilson. The ST only LBs, who made the roster when there was only the Big 3, will have to yield to them. Plus Fletcher and Collins are playing ST too.

Marquis Cole is an abomination as a CB. He is older and he made the club because he is the #2 gunner on ST, and there were not enough genuine CBs, last season. But Logan Ryan has been ably playing the #2 gunner slot on ST; and he is a legitimate and genuine CB even if he is a raw rookie. So he has much more upside.

Ebner was the second best ST on the club last season, just barely behind Slater. Plus he has more upside. Tavon and Duran are good ST players too, so we are not bereft on ST, with dumping several ST-only guys, and replacing them with two way potential players.

I overlooked Tarpinian being on the roster last season I thought he finished the year on PA, I agree with him.

I like Cole as a ST, I think his 4.3 speed is really a dynamic addition.

I agree except I would add Aqib Talib

C I honestly think baring an arrest or suspension Talib is a lock. He appears have turned a corner no pun intended, based on his offseason recognition; combine that with him being our most talented CB and I have to respectfully disagree with your opinion.

Logan Ryan and Duron Harmon have both been seeing extensive reps on special teams, with Logan Ryan seeing time as the second gunner on kickoff coverage.

If Ryan can prove himself there, it may make a guy like Cole potentially more expendable--although it's terribly early to really make any kind of prediction right now in my opinion, but one would think that Belichick may be hoping for Ryan to show enough there to save an additional roster spot for someone else since we all know that Ryan will be making it regardless anyway.

I really liked the Ryan selection, actually everything I've seen and read thus far our draft class appears to be outstanding.

folks.

Quit biting on C'cats obvious wind up.

he's a windup merchant.

Peace and love.
Ringo.

I agree except I would add Vince Wilfork

Just my opinion. However, if he makes the final 53 than(sic) I'll support him as a Patriot.:amen:

He will eat you as his g.d. snack...

Which player(s) who were part of last season 53 man roster do you expect not to make this years final roster?

My personal candidates are (see below).

Nate Ebner
Mike Rivera
Niko Koutouvides
Kamar Aiken
Daniel Fells

I would appreciate it if you post to disagree with one of the 5 players I've selected that you offer someone who was on the roster last season that you'd view as more likely to be cut in their place.

Ebner led the team in special team tackles last year. I think he has a very good chance to make the roster.

I also think Fells will be back unless Gronk is ready to go week one. Even then, I think Fells may make a decent contribution this year to the team.

One dark horse candidate. If Mallet can show anything in the preseason, I wouldn't be surprised if he is traded before the 53 man roster is set. Based on camp reports, that isn't likely to happen though.

If you have Ebner on your 53, I'd be interested in seeing your tough cuts. Ebner has been a tough cut on every 53 I've made.

I also don't project Tebow to be cut, so that could be why. But I think they want to work with him beyond camp and preseason.

You can't be serious. We need a TFB backup in case of a minor injury where he misses a segment of a game or a couple starts who can run the standard offense.

Add Dowling and Cunningham to the list, change the name to "I wouldnt' be surprised if any/all were cut, and make Fells conditional on Ballard's knee, and I think we'd be pretty much in agreement.

Hell, from what we're getting out of camp reports, we could even add Mesko as a potential goner.

I don't do mock 53 man rosters. So I don't know who would be cut.

But I don't think Tebow is going to make this team no matter what everyone is saying.

Teblow gets cut way before Talib does son...

See what just happened?

I still think the Pats will trade him if they can get someone to pony up a significant pick. I still think it will be very unlikely. But if by the unlikely case that someone offers the Pats a second rounder or more for Mallet, they would trade him and try to get someone else to back up Brady.

Again, a lot would have to happen for this to even take place. The first and foremost would be for Mallet to wow people in the preseason. Based on what we have heard from training camp, I am not sure he is even the QB to run a standard offense as a filler for Brady for a game or two. So I am not holding my breath on this.

Cunningham is in trouble, I agree. Maybe Mesko, depending on contract whispers.

I don't get the dislike of Daniel Fells here. Everything I've heard (and saw, when I was there) has been glowing about him. he may not make it, sure - it's very early and the games will determine who makes it and who doesn't, of course, but Fells is pretty good.

Dowling? He's got some minor muscle thing, I expect, and before he went down, he was inconsistent, but showing a very high upside. If he gets back on the field soon, as expected, I think he makes the squad. They need 5 corners, not four and a guy who can run around in circles but who can also play ST.

And I'll be really surprised if Tayvon Wilson gets cut, but then, BB has a way of surprising people.

I agree except I would add Aqib Talib

Statements like this add to the reasons people dislike Tim Tebow. That's the truth, fair or not. (And I say this as someone rooting for TT.)

There is ZERO football reasoning in wanting Talib gone from the team for any Patriot fan (I'm sure the Jets/Dolphins/Bills/Broncos/Ravens fans would love it, though). Talib is far and away the best corner on the team, brings much-needed attitude to the defense and is mentoring the kids.

I don't know, maybe it's a Machiavellian bomb you throw to incite shots that play into some subconscious need for Christian-victim-hood, but really, get a grip.

In my mind, Zoltan Mesko:Ryan Allen::Adam Vinatieri:Robbie Gould.
