Larry Fitzgerald ?@LarryFitzgerald 4m
Back in AZ from #SB48 & the 1st order of business this AM was signing a restructured contract to help the @AZCardinals get better for 2014!

Could this be code for, "restructured so I can be traded to NE and recreate Brady to Moss for 1 year and win it all?"

Not that I was holding out much hope for a trade for him, but this all but guarantees he isn't going anywhere.

This completely removes any possibility of the Pats trading for him this year, and probably next year as well.

For that type of cap hit, even restructured, Id rather sign Anquan Boldin and save the draft pick.

of course felger will tell you how the pats messed up and couldve traded and restructured the contract themselves . Last nite with bedard he was embarassing even when bedard said salary cap for the seahawks is much different than ours. Just terrible.

OMG NO!!!!!

we're ruined now...forget the season...everything sucks

Read my lips: the Patriots do not need to sign a high-priced free agent wide receiver. This nonsense needs to end. Yes, Brady "needs more weapons," which can be addressed by drafting a tight end and possibly signing a second-tier guy (Sanders, etc.). Even if a veteran WR isn't in the cards, what we already have should suffice if healthy.

Agreed.

TE Gronk

WR Amendola, Dobson, Thompkins

If we can bring back Edelman this is enough if not we need something else.

Other than that a back up TE that is capable of starting and producing more in the passing game is about all we need as far as getting Tom weapons.

Then focus more on the D which I think first needs Talib back then could use a Safety to pair with McCourty. They could use some depth at LB. As always they could use an extra pass rusher. And the big question becomes DT/NT do you bring both Vince and Kelly back? Is Siliga, Chris Jones, and Vellano enough depth? What about Armstead?

I think people need to realize how complete next years roster looks especially when you assume the health of the IRed guys and until cuts come. If we can retain Edelman and Talib and then consider the draft there really isnt a lot of room for a big free agent class.

Obviously the goal is to improve where you can but in certain cases you have to decide if we have enough at the spot when those guys were either hurt last year or are first or second year players now which makes it harder as fan to predict what we will do. Obviously we have our own opinions on which younguns can be counted on and which vets we assume will be back but BB could have a completely different plan.

And the way witnesses against Hernandez keep changing their testimony and getting shot.. he should be a free man and available by the start of next season... :violent:

With Fitz's '14 base down to $1M, his cap figures from '14-18 are $8.6M, $24.6M, $17.6M, $17.35M, $17.35M
And there's why he didn't make sense for the Pats. Sure, it saves money now, but look at that $25M cap hit next year. If they restructure next season, then 2016 has an absurd cap hit. If they restructure in 2016, then 2017's cap hit will be ridiculous. And if they restructure in 2017, then the highest 2018 cap hit in the NFL will belong to a 35 year old WR.

this had even little chance at happening...now it's 100% dead....brady will retire with no fitz

Consider that Denver got SPANKED even though they had Demaryius Thomas and he had a 100yd+ 1 TD game. Does adding Fitzgerald change anything for us?

What we need to do is copy Seattle's Blueprint, not Denver's.

Get Vincent Jackson to take a pay cut? Lol kidding... Maybe

I agree with the idea that we'd be better off having Seattle's defense than the Bronco's offense.

But that said, the missing ingredient for the Broncos in that Superbowl was: game-planning.

With Brady quarterbacking that offense and Belichick preparing that team for their biggest game of the year, the Broncos win it.

Good luck with attempting to copy SEA's blueprint, as it will be virtually impossible.

There are any number of moves that could take us into one more win, as there have only been a total of a couple of NFL games in the postseason that have taken place since the 2011 season after we were eliminated. I'd say that we're pretty close.

Every year we hear about how the new flavor of the month will continuously repeat in next year's SB victory, and yet--it never happens. I'm not saying that SEA will suddenly go back to mediocrity, but there's no guarantee that they'll be the premium standard that all other 31 teams will be measured against either. They could just as easily get eliminated in the next 2 consecutive NFCCG's, just the same as we've been.

I think that a couple/few moves would put us right in line with SEA's potential, even if they have a better defense and we go about it in a different method. While I agree with you that we'd all rather have the Seahawk defense than the Bronco offense, we're a lot closer to having the DEN offense at the moment...and light years away from having anything close to SEA's defense. Any combination of a meshing of the 2 may be good enough to get back to the big game and even win it.

I'm not sure why some are lumping the Larry Fitzgerald trade scenario into the more offensive weapons vs. more defense debate.

Fitzgerald:WR :: Brady:QB

It's a fantasy, like trading for Adrian Peterson or JJ Watt. You're not supposed to analyze it. It would simply be awesome.

It's fun to pretend.

No worries the Pats will be diligent in their search to sign underperforming value WRs who will magically morph into playmakers.
