Kyle Shanahan

So you think it's better to ignore his entire career except for this year?
If you think he did a good job in his first 8 years as a coordinator I don't know what to tell you.

And you literally compared him to BB only you did a weak job of it.
If you don't understand as something as simple as an "analogy", then this argument is hopeless. ************.

I don't think you understand what an analogy is.

Umm....he was far from successful in Washington.....I tell you what....you give an decent OC players like Ryan, Jones, Freeman, and Coleman and the rest of their weapons and say "see what you can do with this group "....and if they can't knock it out of the park they should be FIRED! This team has great offensive weapons......unfortunately they are going up against the #1 D which hasn't even peaked yet....the Greatest QB and HC to ever play/coach in the NFL ....and a very talented O in their own right.....sorry Atlanta....it's not your time....and Shanahan is good but not legendary

I was critical last year but after a season to adjust, Atlanta's offense is a historical unit. He's been somewhat successful everywhere he's gone. The problem is he has been with consistent losers. The qbs he has worked with, rg3, Matt schuab, hoyer.. and he was able to do something with all of them. Browns best year was his one and only year there.

With players like ryan and julio, he can do so much more. So now he will get to build his own team to fit his philosophy. I think the 9ers will be big time in a few seasons

Someone here posted that BB's defenses have not done well against Shanahan's offenses.
That was his dad but generally this zone blocking rollout stuff which mike shanahan used always gave us trouble.

I'm not sure if that speaks more to the delicate balance needed to be successful in the NFL or Kyle himself. Did he improve with experience? I would say yes. I would also say that sometimes good coaches/players get run over by bad teams.

Further, Last year was his first year as Atlanta's OC. He changed their offensive system from a vertical deep ball type to a west coast play action pass. Quicker reads etc... So it took time for everyone to learn or convert over to the new system.

It has worked extremely well for him and the team.

I do think the media loves to over glorify every damn thing. "The Great Aaron Rodgers" "He made a pass to an open guy twenty yards down the field that no one in NFL history could make" BLAH BLAH WTF???

Anyways he's done a good job down there and should get credit. BUT, I am curious to see how BB and crew will crack the code to shutting down Kyle's high flying system. We heard a lot about the killer B's and how patient Bell was. I think the over glorified Pittsburgh patient running stuff ended with a thud in the AFCCG.

I actually wonder how hurt Bell actually was. The problem certainly was not severe enough to show up on an injury report. Looked to me like he got hit a couple times and turtled. "I wasn't helping the team".

We're judging OCS on playoff wins now?
Why wouldn't we? Isn't the point to win?
And actually we are judging him on winning, as well as his offenses record of scoring points and turning the ball over. What else would you expect to judge a coach on?

Kyle Shanahan looks like a penis that hasn't shaved.

HC I get it. Anyone else it's kinda redundant even qb. To me at least. Ultimate team sport. I would instead look at did those offenses show improvement upon his arrival. How well did the personnel perform compared to the rest of their career? Tommy nobis never won a playoff game but is one of the best MLB's to ever suit up. **** butkus never won ****. Yes winning is what matters but it requires quality from the top down. Especially in football.

Pretty telling that the Browns were not interested in keeping him around even though he had a contract.

He will be unemployed together with Lynch in 2-3 years. Newest victim of the Jed York wheel of Silicon Valley impatience.

The one year Bill Belichick played with Matt Cassel, he didn't even make it to the playoffs. Just sayin.

By every gauge prior to this year he has been mediocre at best. Losing just summarizes it.

Am I worried about Ryan, Jones, Freeman, Sanu etc? Yes. Am I worried Kyle Shanahan is coaching them? Nope.

What's so historical about them?

They were one of the 10 most prolific offenses in NFL history, even when you weight for strength of schedule.

I figured this thread would be about Shanahan having a Parcells in 1996 moment. Last week he was sitting in on the Lynch hiring and some other things, and being asked questions about his plans for the 49ers. Wonder if his head is 100% on the here and now. Of course, it's impossible to say. No one knows what's going on in Shanahan's head but him.

Being T-7th = Historical?

Great, sure. Historical? Smacks of hyperbole.

And they were 11-5 the same record Atlanta has this year, and were 8th in scoring and 8th best in giveaways.
If shanahans career looked like that I would be praising him.

Outside of Griffin in 2012 and Ryan last year (when the Falcons were installing Shanahan's offense) and this year, Shanahan has had dumpster fires to deal with at the quarterback position as OC. Griffin also went into that playoff game with a flimsy knee and they had the Seahawks on their heels before the knee finally gave out. Hard to fault Shanahan that much more that loss considering he then had to toss in a rookie Cousins against what ended up being an all-time great defense the following year. I agree, though, that he shouldn't be that hot of a commodity for head coaching vacancies but, as an OC, he's been in some pretty **** offenses. McDaniels was handed a similar situation in 2011 and was the coordinator for the 32nd ranked offense in the league, scoring a paltry 193 points the entire season.
