Kyle Brady as a blocker....

On the predictability issue...

While Graham had the ability to be more of a receiving threat, he wasn't being used that way, and teams could still predict that he would block most of the time.

Brady can be used in the same fashion. I'm not saying I'd rather have KB over Graham, but with the way we were using him, it really doesn't make that much difference (except for the age, but then again watch us draft a blocking TE project this year).

Well, I think two things when I see this, (and I think you aren't the first to mention this idea of predictability). Deception starts with the defense coming to a conclusion on what you are doing. We can use the idea that "K. Brady is only in to block" as an advantage. But more importantly, and this might seem contradictory to my last point, but I don't see anything wrong with Brady being brought in mainly to block. I guess I think deception is overrated, and if he's a great blocker, and he can do that well, then whether the D knows he's in to block or not is irrelevant.

Very good point, but in a 2 TE set with Maroney in the backfield, Watson and Brady at TE, and 2 of Caldwell/Gaffney/Jackson/maybe Welker at WR, there is plenty of room to decieve.

What we can't do is line up Kyle Brady and Heath Miller at the same time, for that would be a dead giveway.

Daniel Graham wasn't worth the price tag to the Pats and Brady will show it in the upcoming year. Graham was a blocker that wanted more receptions. If he gets a lot of receptions, he will earn the Pats a decent comp pick while Brady will provide an adequate blocker and good hands for far less a price.

Except for the short ydg/goal line pkg. He should limit the use of defensive players out of position and increase the "sell" of play-fakes.

Man oh man, are we signing FA's at a break-neck pace. I just can't keep up. Who is this Heath Miller?

My take on comparing Brady and Graham is this

Brady and Graham are equals in pass blocking but Graham is a much better run blocker

Graham - in part due to age, but also the fact that he's a better athlete - can really get moving and level an opposing player when run blocking

For pass blocking where a TE is more like an extra OL Brady is definately better than average.

Brady's ok on run blocking too - he just doesn't seem to have the same devastating hits that Graham often did, and I think he's lost a step of speed both as a run blocker and pass catcher - which is ok because I think we're looking at him more as extra pass protection.
