Krafts Have a Decision To Make on GM

It has been obvious for at least three years that BIll is an absolutely incompetent GM. Surely we need not waste time revisiting that obvious fact. In my eye, there has been a very troublesome decline over the past couple of years in his HC work as well, in managing the gameday roster, in in-game adjustment, in getting his team to play with awareness on game day, in anticipating player replacement needs and acting on them by properly identifying and developing possible replacements, in choosing coaches/coordinators: on and on.

We need to start over. The whole thing stinks to high heaven, right?

We spend too much time also discussing the present QB situation. We don't have a qb whom we know to be worthy of starting, period. Does it really then matter who starts? I'd let Grier have a go, just to see whether he might have a role next year. EVERYTHING at this point is about next year and years following at this point, surely.

Finding a GM.

Belichick can still coach. But his job duty as GM is now over. That much should be clear in these murky times.

Names? Captain Stone is emphatic it be someone like Eliot Wolf, son of Packer GM Ron, and not Matt Groh, son of Al.

Picking a GM, regardless of who the head coach will be next year, is priority number one for Jonathan Kraft.

What is your evidence/basis for your opinion that "Belichick can still coach"? I really want to know on what folks of that camp base their opinion. Just in his post-Brady coaching career, he is 27-34, has not won a division, made the playoffs once, and has not won a playoff game. He has also taken a team that went 12-4 four seasons ago and commandeered said club to a 2-8 record, averaging 14 ppg with a -97 point differential afte 10 games. A -97 point differential currently ranks only ahead of 1992 and 1990 in modern Patriots history. This team is historically bad.
In the four years post-Brady the team has started out poorly (three consecutive 1-3 starts and 2-2 with Cam Newton) and they have finished going the wrong direction (1-3 in 2020, 1-3 in 2021 plus an embarrassing playoff loss, and 1-3 in 2022). When you consider oftentimes the first quarter of the season usually includes a few division games, this is a recipe for disaster. I've just laid out facts that indicate, no, Bill Belichick can NOT still coach (and likely never was anything more than a below average head coach who could devise a good defensive game plan every now and then when you look at his record without Brady).
And to those that whine about the pre/post Brady stuff beating a dead horse - it is far from beating a dead horse and is certainly relevant when there is probably a majority of people on here that think "Belichick can still coach". Seriously, what makes folks think he can still (or could ever) coach? Just look at his Cleveland record and his record as HC of the NEP since Brady left. Is it the Cassell year vs one of the weakest schedules in the NFL? Was it going 3-1 with during Brady's suspension?

I agree with all of this. If you simply in an honest moment ask yourself, "Does this team appear to be well-coached?" you KNOW what the answer must be. So QED, I think.

The pats should consider whoever is highly ranked under howie roseman. The eagles have arguably the most modern roster construction in today's NFL. They invest heavily in the lines & pass catcher. They don't spend alot at RB, LB & S. Howie built two different superbowl rosters with carson wentz, nick foles & jalen hurts as his qbs. Joe douglas has drafted well outside of wilson & turned the jets into an above average roster. Someone in the eagles organization is a good place to start IMO.

There’s so much job title inflation that nobody knows who exactly that is. Assistant GMs and vice presidents and directors all over the place. None of them got any GM interviews last year.

I don’t have any. Just that he has done a lousy job as GM since 10+ years. I bitterly complained with the drafting of Tavon Wilson in the second round in 2012. He was a dramatically stupid teach.

Things would only get worse a few years later with second round bust Jordan Richards who, even to my inexperienced eye watching him in the 2014 Rose Bowl, lacked the requisite athleticism.

Bill seems to think interviews are more important than anything else. Richards is a very impressive Stanford graduate.
