OXNARD, Calif. – With starting defensive linemen Jay Ratliff and Anthony Spencer missing at least the next few weeks with injuries, and top defensive end reserve Tyrone Crawford out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, the Dallas Cowboys have turned to Ben Bass to become the club’s first team defensive end opposite of DeMarcus Ware.
Bass, an undrafted rookie free agent in 2012, worked at that spot throughout Wednesday’s morning and afternoon practice sessions.
“Bass has it all,” Cowboys starting defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said. “Bass is going to be the reason I’m playing on a different team next year. He’s coming on. He’s coming on. I just have to keep my job security, keep playing my butt off.”
