OXNARD, Calif. – With starting defensive linemen Jay Ratliff and Anthony Spencer missing at least the next few weeks with injuries, and top defensive end reserve Tyrone Crawford out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, the Dallas Cowboys have turned to Ben Bass to become the club’s first team defensive end opposite of DeMarcus Ware.

Bass, an undrafted rookie free agent in 2012, worked at that spot throughout Wednesday’s morning and afternoon practice sessions.

“Bass has it all,” Cowboys starting defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said. “Bass is going to be the reason I’m playing on a different team next year. He’s coming on. He’s coming on. I just have to keep my job security, keep playing my butt off.”

"Just more than a year later, Bass will line up with the No. 1 defense and start Sunday night's preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins in Canton, Ohio.
Once he got his 6-foot-5 frame inside Valley Ranch, Bass started making plays.
He showed enough during Organized Team Activities and mini camp to earn an invitation to training camp. When he got to Oxnard last year, he just kept making plays, in practice and during his limited opportunities in preseason games.
Bass earned a spot on the practice squad. When the team's defensive line suffered some injuries late in the season, they promoted him to the 53-man roster."

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in New England, though that tweaked hammy does leave me with some concerns.

I never said they ran it on our starters. I simply was saying that our bottom of the roster defensive tackles etc were no match for the redskins bottom players when it came to stopping the run and it would be nice if our bottom depth dt were to be upgraded. Hopefully Bass and Worthy will help this cause. Preseason or not, getting ran all over is the worst way to lose.

Our bottom of the roster players got run over by the Skins First stringers...

I don't expect much from injured Bass and Injured/Bust Worthy.
