Let's not do this.

Let's not turn TB's pursuit of the "consecutive games started with a TD pass" record into a circus like the Saints and Drew Brees did last year. We can't criticize the Saints and Brees for doing that and then turn around and do it ourselves.

Plus. It's way bad Karma to say things like "...will break..." the record. Is that "just superstition?" You betcha!

Brady is in the hunt for another SB ring, that's the record we should all really care about.

Stats are for losers. I want to a healthy team and to win in Feb and that's all I care about...................But it would be cool for TFB to get it!

Brady is in the hunt for another SB ring, that's the record we should all really care about.

Brady is also the most competitive guy in all of football. Of course, the end game is going to be raising the Lombardi trophy for every player in the NFL. But, being the competitive guy that we all know he is, you don't think that Brady would be excited about breaking that record?

But starting with that nightmare 2007 stats focused season, a large segment of the Patriots fan base became obsessed with individual statistics, like MLB fans, totally missing the point.

Ya know, I was thinking about this recently as well. In those days Peyton was annoited the greatest quarterback in the league with his flashy style of play and incredible stats. Meanwhile in New England we kept referring to Brady's win totals.

Now the same is almost true but instead of Manning vs. Brady it was Brady vs. Flacco. Flacco won a Super Bowl and many road playoff games but is still disregarded in the conversation of best quarterbacks in the league.

I guess what goes around comes around.

I agree with you (and Belichick, who did say it) that, in general, "Stats are for losers."

Johnny U's record, though, was a big deal to break. Any record that stands for over half a century in any sport, let alone a QB record in a QB-obsessed league, is meaningful.

Brees deserved all the praise he got for breaking it. If Brady is fortunate enough to throw a TD in each of the next seven games, he will deserve all the praise he gets as well. But, seven games is an eternity in the NFL...which is why this record is such a big deal.

We as Pats fans or as a forum Patsfans.com can not turn it into a c ircus. No one would (or should) criticize a fan of the saints for getting excited about the potential to cross a major milestone. What people harped on was the way Brees himself handled it and with the way the team did too. I dont think the Patriots nor Brady would ever do what the saints did and certainly not to the extent that they did.

...that he probably wouldn't celebrate it publicly isn't relevant. He's competitive enough that he would, more than likely, be happy about it. I don't understand why some people seem to believe that Brady is a football bot whose sole purpose in life is only to win Super Bowls. He's human. Of course he's going to get excited over individual accomplishments and he can still do so while maintaining the intensity required to take the team to, and hopefully win, another Super Bowl.
