Junior watch list

He'd make a nice #3. Superb route runner.

Yes indeed. I didn;'t know he was projected as high as the first rounder.

Was hoping the patsies could draft him in the mid 2nd. looks like that might be hard.

not sure why the patsies are high on von miller, he seems like a lot of college guys, good production but then when he goes against top caliber, he's nullified. NFL is all top caliber compared to college-aroo.

Here's part II of Wes Bunting's Early Entries commentary:

Early entry juniors: Part II | National Football Post

Some notes of interest:

- "South Florida defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is a bit of an enigma at this stage, but trust me when I say this: The 6-6, 265-pound lineman has the physical and athletic skill set to be as good as he wants to be at the next level. Pierre-Paul possesses elite length for the position and does a great job keeping himself clean on the edge and shedding blocks in all areas of the game. Plus, he’s a gifted athlete for his size who displays a good first step and possesses the lateral quickness to disengage on contact and quickly close on the QB in the pass game. Pierre-Paul is still a bit raw at this stage, but if you want a great looking piece of clay that can be molded into a fine piece of artwork, he’s your guy."

- "One defensive end I’m not quite as high on is USC’s Everson Griffen. There’s no denying Griffen’s physical skill set -- the guy has a good first step, can play with power on his bull-rush and knows how to push the pocket vs. the pass game – but his inability to shed blocks vs. the run and make plays on the edge is troubling. I know most junior prospects need time to develop and have some rough edges, but the fact Griffen doesn’t play the run well and doesn’t project as an impact-caliber pass rusher (in my opinion) makes me think his best option would have been to return for his senior year."

I actually think Griffen will blow up the combine and will be a top 20 pick, possibly going as early as the Raiders at #8.

I wast watching one of JPP's games the other week, and the protection started off the game on Selvie's side - by the start of the second half they'd rolled it to JPP, and he was still getting into the back field.

01/09/10 - South Florida wide receiver Carlton Mitchell will enter the next NFL draft, a person close to the player said Friday. Mitchell, a 6-foot-4, 212 pound junior, had 40 catches for 706 yards and four touchdowns this season. Mitchell had previously said he had no plan to leave USF. USF fired football coach Jim Leavitt on Friday after a school investigation concluded he grabbed one of his players by the throat, slapped him in the face and then lied about it. - Joe Schad, ESPN via NFL Draft Scout

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan junior receiver Antonio Brown will enter the National Football League Draft.

Brown announced his decision late Thursday.

"I feel like I have matured and developed during my time at CMU," Brown said. "I want to thank the whole academic staff, my coaches, the whole CMU nation and everyone involved in the football program who believed in me and helped me mature as a person."

Brown finished his career with 305 receptions for 3,199 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for four touchdowns and returned three punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns during his career.

Brown is CMU's all-time leader in receptions and ranks second in Mid-American Conference history. He is third in school history in receiving yards and second in touchdown receptions.

Brown was the MAC Special Teams Player of the Year in both 2008 and 2009. He was named MAC Freshman of the Year in 2007.

Brown caught 102 passes for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns in 2007. In 2008, he caught 93 passes for 998 yards and seven touchdowns. Brown finished 2009 with a school-record 110 receptions for 1,198 yards and nine touchdowns.

Brown was selected the 2010 GMAC Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player after posting 403 all-purpose yards in the No. 25 Chippewas' 44-41 double-overtime win over Troy Wednesday night. Brown caught 13 passes for 178 yards, rushed for a touchdown and returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.

Posted about Brown in another thread. He is very very quick, nice hands too.

He and Bryan Anderson formed a superb tandem for Dan LeFevour to throw to.

He's another of those All-Purpose WR types whom I'd welcome in this draft as competition/depth for Tate/Edelman at #3 WR.

BB loves quick twitch receiver. It will be interesting to see his pro day times.

Georgia Tech junior DE Derrick Morgan, RB Jonathan Dwyer, and S Morgan Burnett have scheduled a press conference for 1 PM today. That suggests that all 3 will declare for the draft.

Are we picking at #22 now? I thought the initial slot was #25.

EDIT: never mind...just read the other thread.

That's an amazingly deep draft. That's 83 prospects right there, and it would be easily to add another 13 to fill a full 3 rounds.

Guys still not announced include Alabama ILB Rolando McClain and CB Kareem Jackson (supposedly set to declare tomorrow), Oklahoma LB Travis Lewis and DE/OLB Jeremy Beal, Pitt DE/OLB Greg Romeus, Texas A&M DE/OLB Von Miller, LSU OT Joseph Barksdale and S Chad Jones, Wisconsin OT/G Gabe Carimi, Iowa CB Amari Spievey and Stanford RB Toby Gerhart (supposedly leaving).

Anyone heard of this guy? Rolando McClain, Linebacker, Alabama

The CB class now includes Joe Haden, Donovan Warren, Brandon McGhee, Amari Spievey, Patrick Robinson, Perrish Cox, Kyle Wilson and Syd'Quan Thompson. Very deep, though only Haden is a clear 1st round pick. Alabama CB Kareem Jackson is rumored to be declaring tomorrow.

Spievey is my boy. Let's hope he gets to the point where we can scoop him up in the 3rd or 4th round.
