Edelman wants out.
He will be lovesick all season if the Pats dont move him. Grant him his wish.
Edelman's contract would seem to make it very unlikely that he gets traded or cut. He'd cost $7 Million on an already max'ed out cap. This would be a very stupid move by the Patriots right now.
There would be a lot of dead money but we would save over $1M overall.
That said, no way would I trade him cheap just to help our former QB. No less than a #2 or he stays if I'm in charge.
That would shock me. Really.
Edelperson has 6M+ on the line for this season. Unlike some WRs who've made big $ forever, he has not. If he physically can play, and I don't see why not, he'll play. I prefer to see him here.
I do think he'd be very happy to join Tommy Boy in Tamper. If BB can get a decent pick and/or player in trade with Tampa I see it happening. Let Tom know backchannel that Tampa isn't steping up on the Squirrel trade offer and wait.
Then no deal. Minimal cap savings and a minimal draft pick isn't worth trading Edelman.
Jules will never hold out, come on. He'll be there and he'll play his hardest.
I'd prefer to see Bill do the New England Patriots a solid and trade him & one of our (4) 6th-rounders to TB for #45 overall...otherwise they can feck off...
Edit: didn't realize that the cap savings of trading him were so minimal...in that case Bill must insist on that 2nd-rounder just to make it closer to being actually worthwhile...
If we can get a 6th round pick back, it's probably worth it to trade Jules to Tampa. He is pretty broken down compared to years of yore. I don't think you'd get much more in return though. He's really only great in our system or with Brady as his QB, much as I love the guy. If we are rebuilding this year, might as well embrace the full rebuild.
Ummm...this from the same captain that was '' from my post saying essentially the same thing?
So he's great 'with Brady as his QB ' but we should be happy to get a 6th back from the team that signed the guy he's great with???
I'm not saying I'm happy with a 6th rounder, but we need to keep our expectations realistic. You're not going to get much for a 34 year old 'system' WR who has not been very healthy recently. And it's better to ship out someone who is not happy here than to sour the lockerroom.
Let's be real, Jules and Tommy are BEST friends. It's the same reason that Jason McCourty wanted to come to New England, not for the money but to play with his brother.
I'll give BB credit here for being very shrewd in picking up Jason's option. That must have played a pretty big factor in Devin agreeing to the 2 year contract extension.
The one thing is Julians' friendship with Tom the another is the fact he is a professional football player and knows his duties. The moat important is the fact he still is a Patriot and he would be obliged to do as many good things for the organization as it possible.
After the games he can even see Tom every day it is his choice.
I'm not saying he would hold out or anything but you can bet he would be way happier to be a Tampa Bay Buc and playing with his best friend Tom Brady. It's kinda hard to see your friend 'every' day as you put it when they are in a different state all the way to the south. Boston to Florida is a 21 hour drive IF you go nonstop. LOL.
I live in Europe but trust me I know very well where is Boston and Florida and I am aware of the word "metaphor" which is known by me as well.
Given the Brady connection and his very reasonable contract expecting an Edelman trade to Tampa to net a 2nd or a 3rd is entirely realistic. The Bucs are obviously headed into a limited window with this QB signing. Trading him elsewhere (before the trade deadline) for anything more than a mid 4th would be unrealistic.
The only coach desperate enough to overpay like this would be BB.
5 in receptions, 18th in yards (I was off ). One of the best slot receivers in football. Only a moron would give him up for a 5th or later.
I'm not specifying a round, and I'm not saying you're right or wrong. I'm just offering some info....
Here are some things to take into account with regards to Edelman and other non-ELITE wrs this year:
Edelman's age (as noted earlier)
Edelman's recent spate of injuries
A WR draft that's considered to be all kinds of stocked
Slow WR FA market, partly as a result of the upcoming draft
Field Yates is talking about it.
However we haven't exactly been great at drafting Wrs so I have no issues paying Anderson or perriman
We need a double-funny emoji for this, like a funny emoji with a turbocharger on it.
Separate names with a comma.
