Jules wants out?

If Sanu can get a 2nd because he was under contract for multiple years at cheap money, so should Jules....... (2 years left on his deal)

Just because the Patriots made a bad trade for Sanu (I thought it was an overpay right after. Look at original thread), doesn’t mean TB would make an equally as bad trade. That is not how trades work.

Edelman isn't part of the future of the passing offense. If Brady were retiring. I would suspect Edelman might have also. As it is, he would likely play for TB until Brady is gone.

I see us getting a 5th or a swap of picks in the 3rd or 4th.

We have no idea whether Edelman really wants to be traded and we are now recommending that the Pats trade a recent SB MVP who leaves everything on the field for our team to the Bengals, bc that would make him miserable? Jesus.
I think it is safe to say the guy would welcome a trade to Tampa Bay. That doesn't mean he will be a malcontent if he stays in NE, but let's be honest here...

No, Edelman wouldn't be a malcontent. He will just be an old beat up receiver considering whether to put his body through any more pain. If we don't trade him, I suspect that Edelman won't be there for camp in August.

Do him a solid and release him.

I'd bet on him being in Tampa a 4th would be a decent return. Tampa will be in the NFC race. Brady has lost something, but with the recievers they have adding JE will make solid. Especially true if they get a running game.

The Pats made a 'go for it' trade because of the circumstances they were in. How big of a window does TB have with Brady? They committed to $3oM per for a 43 year old QB but they'd balk at a 2nd or 3rd for the affordable contract of his favorite target? When you think/hope you are close you do make those deals, that is part of how some trades work.

Edelman can make 6-7M depending on number of catches (and health) this year. Even if Brady retired I find it difficult to believe that Jules would have thrown away that possibility. To keep that in perspective this is a bit less than what he made in total from 2009-2016. He never made more in a year than he will this year.

2021 is a totally different story though.

Hold the price firm at a 2nd round pick and make em squirm. Might not get it, but might ultimately get a pretty good offer.

We're under no obligation to trade him and he's worth a lot more to Tampa than any other team who has a short title window and wants to keep Tom happy.

We’ll trade him for of swap of 7th rounders

First Gronk then Tom now Jules. If BB’s convinced these guys they’ve had enough of him maybe BB’s attitude with players is too extreme now. I wonder if he even considers them human.

That would be a slap in the face to the coach that gave Edelman a chance. To the coach that helped win three titles. And I don't think Edelman would ever do that. He doesn't strike me as that type of guy.

I don't understand why we should dump him for next to nothing (7th round pick, 4th round swap...). Even if he obviously is not the future, even if he's washed up - he still is a valuable receiver now and an imported locker room factor. If he is of more value to the Bucs because Brady wants to throw to his buddy, then they should pay for it. What is our benefit, if we trade him?
We overpaid for Sanu because we were in need of a WR. If the Bucs are in need of Jules to make Brady comfortable and kickstart their offense, make them pay!

This is what I would do Edelman and a Comp 3rd for the Bucs Second. Yeah we need a Second Rounder everybody wins.

We are not in position to make anybody pay be nice. :)

Jesus, Edelman was in the top 10 in receptions and yards, despite being injured. If Tampa wants him, they need to give the Pats a 2nd round pick. And that’s a bargain. **** this late round ********.

I think that it is likely that Edelman would retire if he isn't playing for TB.

We are in the first stage of grief regarding Edelman: denial.

TB doesn't need Edelman. They have a fine receiving corp, including a solid slot receiver. Patriot fans can make believe Edelman is a #1 receiver for our new QB. I don't see trading a 2nd (or even a 3rd) for a slot receiver being right for TB.

Top 10 in yards? Edelman was not top 10 in yards.

He might be top 10 in receptions because every pass is 3 yards long.

Edelman is the 56th ranked WR per Football Outsiders. How many more seasons at 34 years old does he have left? Chris Godwin is 24 years old and Mike Evans 27 years old. Arians likes to push the ball downfield in 3 WR sets. Perriman 27 years old was their 3rd WR. All relatively young, big WRs. If Tampa wants to blow a 2nd on an old 1 or 2 year rental by all means lets do the deal.
