I am simply of the opinion that the Pats should get their picks back from the NFL and an apology. And I do mean BOTH picks; the #1 in 2016 and the #4 in 2017. Personally, I'm seeing more and more people- who are not even Pats fans -discover the ridiculousness of the entire claim and the idiocy of the tyrant who poses an an authority over the league and its fans. "NO," should have been the answer. Let the answer be "NO," now, as well. It seems that every argument stemming from this fiasco begins at the foot of an open door; one that starts with lost picks and outrageous fines. Consider that it does not and all of it can and should be set right. And if this includes taking on the current idiot in charge (i.e. Goodell), so be it. Let's sack him! :D

Stop being so conciliatory towards the NFL* !!

The 2007 1st rounder ALSO needs to be returned.

So you want to see an elderly man Bobby Kraft shunned by the other 31 whom he will do anything to curry favor with?

This team will stand as a martyr on draft day against the persecution of the Nyjfl.

I have too many expletives to write that would be appropriate for this board regarding those picks.

Ya mean the ones that set him up and continue to throw fuel on the false claims...the ones who envy his position so much, they'd manufacture false claims and support one another en route to stripping the the franchise of its most valuable resources (i.e. players)? o_O

YES. :D

Each team has a rookie salary cap allocation based on the players they drafted. If we subsequently acquire a player taken very high in that year's draft, we don't get a rookie salary cap allocation for him. So unless the kid is willing to play for peanuts, we couldn't make it fit with the cap.

I would love to hear Miguel take on this, imo they can get around that. Unfortunately most are hung up on the example and have missed the actual point, of the thread entirely. My mistake, I shouldn't have used an example.

The point is that the NFL is blocking them from trading for a higher first round pick, not a higher first round player.

I remember reading recently that there is language in the penalty handed down by goodell that states the pats Can't trade for a 1st round pick in the up-coming draft.

Selfishly I hope Josh stay s and I want him to be groomed to eventually take over from BB. BB has stated in the past that he doesn't want to coach into his seventies so one has to assume that we have have have him only for another 3-5 years !

Yes, but not someone else's.

The Pats only have one 1st round pick. If they get any other 1st round pick it would have to be someone else's.

Not to speak for Miguel, but I believe when the idea of trading for someone else's pick was raised before, he said the cap would prevent the Pats from doing that.

Future years should be in play though.

If I were McDaniels, the most intriguing option would be the Colts after they clean house. Irsay gives him power over the shopping list and he gets to fix the broken Luck. Don't know what it would take to get that done, but it is one of the more interesting opportunities for 2016. Of course, Patriots fans would hate that.

Of course if they did trade for someone else's pick(slot, not player) that pick is immediately forfeited and Pats get #32 back!

Here is another possibility.

Make McDaniels' and/or Patricia's availability to interview for other team be contingent on the NFL* returning the Pats' stolen draft picks since there has been no solid evidence that the Pats tampered with the balls in any way.

Gotta love the thought of Irsay going to the Omissioner to lobby for the return of the Pats' picks.

Anywhere but there.
I dont think with all the crap his team had to deal with that he would never go to that orginization because what they pulled not only questioned Bradys ability and character but his and every player, coach, scout, trainer, equipement helper, anyone who is or was employed by the Patriots last year unless its their only option to make a living shouldnt even pick up the phone if they came calling.

Mcdaniels would never do that to Tom and if he did to me it would be far worse than Mangini's shenanigans.

McDaniels already said no to the Cleveland job once. He turned down better jobs like Atlanta last season.

I don't know why McDaniels would want to jump to that Cleveland ****show. That's hardly a recipe for success there.

McDaniels knows he needs a franchise QB - he'd either go to an under-performing team with potential or have a deal in place for a trade for a guy he has faith can go to the next level

That MIGHT be Garoppolo

But I think McDaniels will want to go to a team more complete than the Browns

Nobody is giving McD GM privledges right off the bat again. Not sure somebody is even giving a high first for Garropollo yet.

Teams like the Lions or Titans would, imo.

It's not a HUGE stretch to think that a guy who was one of four QBs invited to the 2014 draft and was ultimately drafted in the 2nd round could command a higher draft pick after spending 2 seasons working with Brady and Belichick

He has a pretty quick release and has always patterned his play off of Brady

Look at who the top QB picks are in the draft - and ask yourself if you'd prefer to draft them, or a player with equal upside who's also just had a 2 year red-shirt era with the GOAT coach and QB

I'd do anything and everything to get this 1st rounder back. We know Kraft isn't fighting. We know the NFLPA will fight over anything and I bet they would love for an excuse for a fight here. I think I've found one loophole that gives the NFLPA a way to fight this, which I've mentioned before.

This offseason, the Pats need to attempt to sign a restricted free agent subject to 1st round compensation to an offer sheet. The CBA explicitly says in Article 9, Section 3(c) that only teams that have applicable draft choices are allowed to sign these offer sheets - thus the NFL would nullify the contract. This then opens the door to an NFLPA lawsuit on the draft picks - that the NFL unfairly restricted someone's free agency opportunity. The NFLPA would definitely fight; who knows if they'll win, but they'll fight.

When I brought this idea up before, someone thought that the draft pick compensation would revert to the subsequent year. But I've just confirmed (as noted above) this isn't the case. Here is a link to the CBA. https://nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/collective-bargaining-agreement-2011-2020.pdf
