Man. What a terrible place for my first post. Die-hard Browns fan, long time Pats fan as well. No bandwagon bs, lost a close friend in the late 80s who was a rabid Pats fan, have rooted for your team ever since. Loving BB and watching the career of the GOAT has made it a lot easier (and a lot of my "so-called" friends hate me even more).
First things first, damn people, I have no idea how you can be cashing in your chips before the playoffs even begin. You have TOM BRADY. I could swear I've watched this guy pick receivers off the street and make them pro bowlers. It might not look pretty on paper right now... but on a cold day in January, when Mahomes looks across the field at the Man, the Myth, all bets are off. This guy can do the "un-do-able" and has a coach by his side that's cast from the same mold. Shake it off guys!
Josh Gordon. Wow, I just shake my head. What a wasted career. Do I feel bad for him? I guess, a little... but how bad can you really feel? I feel bad for the 9 to 5er that struggles to make ends meet and can't walk away from addiction. No resources, no bright, shiny future. Just a pile of muck and no way out. I felt bad for a kid I treated like a son who was, by all accounts, days from death with a heroin addiction. He's five years clean with a beautiful family, a budding career and serves as an inspiration to all around him. Josh has had every opportunity, all the resources in the world, and everything to look forward to. He's failed, miserably. What to do besides shake your head in disbelief?
That said, anyone that thinks poor Josh is the poster-child for unfair rules and is just getting picked on for "smokin' a little weed" - you must be out of your mind. Josh is a drug addict. He's been drinking "purple drank" since high school. OPIATES. It's no walk in the park and takes a strong individual to walk away from, but people do it everyday.
Remember DeMar DeRozan and K Love and their "courageous" coming out party when talking about depression and mental illness? Josh and his agent said "bingo!" He pulled that at the beginning of training camp and tried it again this week. I don't want to sound heartless, but let's be honest... doesn't everyone drug addict, by definition, also have a mental health issue? If you come out and talk about it you're a hero and deserve sympathy, plain and simple. If I was a betting man (I am), I would bet that Josh burnt a test or didn't show for one right before camp, hid behind his "illness", and ran off to never-never-land to see what "the Rog" would do about it. Roger gave him his last-last chance and Josh laughed and continued doing what he does.
I watched the Browns organization prop this dude up while he kept up his shenanigans for six years. Six years of unwavering support from organization and players, six years of support from fans. Six years of lies... second hand smoke, didn't know he couldn't drink cough syrup with codeine, didn't know he couldn't get smashed on the team plane after the last game because he thought he could drink "now that the season is over".
Raw deal? Yes, b*llshit tartar served on a silver platter... by Josh, for Josh. It's a shame but it is what it is. Some people just can't walk away, and certainly can't see the forest through the trees.
Keep your heads up, Pats fans, just another bump in the road. The rest of the league is just a little more scared now than they were a few days ago. The last thing you want to do to BB and the GOAT is tell them they "can't".
