Patriots Player Departure Josh Gordon Stepping Away?

Who's saying this team is a buzzsaw?
According to the homers on this site we have a good roster with plenty of speed. Also it seems we can just plug in Dorsett and Patterson and match Gordon’s production no problem.

Did I miss something? I'm responding to Kontra who has flat out quit on the team he said it himself.
If that is the case then I missed something. I don’t think this is a great team but I certainly haven’t quit on it. I’ll root from now till I die but I won’t feel confident if we are heading to KC or LA this year.

Think we’ll win a home game, but could we even score 20 in KC?

I have absolute faith that the Patriots have the ABILITY to go into KC and score 20+ points and win. I just do not know which Patriots team will show up.. It has been such a freaking roller coaster this year that I cannot even give good odds on which team will show up.

Some were willing to give him a big money extension, which was totally asinine, but there was no reason why he couldn’t have played on the RFA next season at 4.4m dollars.

There was no way in hell that they were going to offer him a big payday, though. That was never going to happen. At least not until early/spring of 2020.

Yeah, pretty much - his past troubles pretty much guaranteed that he was never going to get a big-guarantee, long-term payday anywhere, and especially not here. I really don't get the claim that there was no way he would have been on this roster next year, though. It's all a moot point now, but if he'd kept his head on straight, helped the team, and showed signs of growing up and acting with maturity without any red flags, then I don't see why anyone would conclude that this couldn't have led to him being here next year at a modest cap figure.

Patterson was supposed to be Dola lol.

wow..didn't see this coming...

Patterson was supposed to be Dola lol.

Not sure why that was ever an assumption. His route tree is far too limited. He's a very nice piece to have in a more complete WR corps, though.

Then why didn't they win the Super Bowl in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017? All years when Brady was healthy. Leaving out 2007 since he sustained an ankle injury prior to that game.
05- Ref didn't call a touchback
06-we were final four team
09-Takes a year after such a significant injury
10-no excuse
11-present we were final four team

Maybe they fall a game or 2 short but coaching and QB give them a great shot at another SB.

Man....

Combined with the rumors of an alleged MCL injury with Brady...

I predicted Gordon would be back on the weeeeeeeeddah, I just assumed he would be caught during the offseason. I mean, it's not a dramatic change, the offense was suspect anyway because of McDaniels and the weak RB situation, so the defense may get us to one victory in the playoffs at least.

Shoot...

NYJ and BUF are pretty good defenses, especially against us, what if we miss the playoffs completely and MIA takes the division?

I honestly don't care at this point. I'll go down with the Patriots ship. This season as a whole, not just the Pats, sucked pretty bad all around anyway. It kind of sucked last year, but I'm still here. Parity sucks. Is there like really any clear cut, like... great team this year? The teams seem mediocre this season... maybe we can still win it all. Yeah Let's gooooo! Go Pats!!!!! and all that wild stuff.

Good. You're getting there naturally. And I wasn't talking about a final four team. I was asking about winning the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the team didn't have enough in those years. There were glaring holes all over those rosters which eventually caught up to them (as glaring holes are known to do) in the postseason. In football, where the margin of error is razor thin, those holes stand out more in postseason play.

Maybe they fall a game or 2 short but coaching and QB give them a great shot at another SB.

Of course. And I won't argue with you there. But, as we've seen, the two of them alone are not enough. It takes a complete team to win a Super Bowl or a team that is absolutely dominant on one side of the ball to do it. The Patriots, to date, have had neither in the 2018 season. Your expectations in this post are of a tempered variety. That said, you're not that much different than I am.

This is not our season....look at this WR core...yikesss

Burst... whatever. He's 32 and coming off an ACL tear.

My perspective is that he's been slightly more productive on a per-game basis this season than he was in 2016 at age 30 and before the ACL tear - even with the drops. Without the drops he'd be having a career season.

Doing the math, projecting out, JE11 would finish the season with 100 receptions for 1,137 yards if he played all 16 games. That's neat, as I don't feel like I've been watching that during the game broadcasts.

Again, I'm not seeing anyone making those claims in this thread. Seeing ways things could happen is not saying they will, or excluding the possibility that they won't.

Well this sucks a fat bong rip.

That’s a lot different than your earlier comment about predicting a SB win...
