Patriots Player Departure Josh Gordon Stepping Away?

I hate to say it but I'm very disappointed by the negativity of some of the fans here. Some of them seem to be calling it quits over the loss of a player that most of us knew had a 50/50 shot at staying in the first place.

If I were on a team with quitters like that I'd want to grab them by their face-mask, give it a few yanks and then slap them upside their helmets and tell them to wake the **** up. Some of them don't deserve this team.

Nope... that's just the way that you read into it. You're more than welcome to quote the post where I said I've quit on the team, though. Looking forward to it.

And dude, just as a bit of advice, you're looking really bad on this one. Just go ahead and bow out.
"That's just the way that you read into it."

Your exact words in a response to me: "The season is over. That's not crying."

How would you suppose one read into that other than you quitting on this season?

Be more disingenuous, you can't.

You absolutely went personal. "Go back to quitting on the team" was a catty, personal potshot. Here's another hint - when you go away from dedicating your post to my argument and instead dedicate one toward me, personally, that's making it personal. So I delivered one back and now you're crying about it. Don't like that? Don't make it personal. Stick to the subject at hand and you won't have to worry about that stuff.

The subject was your quitting or as you put it resigning yourself. I might have been a little catty but it was directly on the subject of your calling out half the board as bandwagon fans. For some reason you couldn't handle me pointing out that it was you who has quit so you decided to make fun of how I look. And nope I don't like that.
There are many things I could say about you but that is not on the subject and I'll keep it to myself.

To be clear, the outlook, at least for me, hasn't changed all that dramatically pre- and post-Gordon.

And what do you think will happen to this team with the #2 seed?

First off, I was responding to you and @KontradictioN scoffing at the idea that the Pats could make a SB run.

The #2 seed could possibly give them home field throughout the playoffs if the #1 seed (KC or LAC) lost, which is a very real possibility.

Think we’ll win a home game, but could we even score 20 in KC?
I think KC has the makings of a one and done, even if they hold onto the 1 seed. A few things, which are not THAT unlikely to happen, are: Pats win out reg season, Texans lose 1, KC lose in the playoffs and you're looking at Pats homefield advantage throughout if they take care of business.

Not going to bet the house on it, but it's certainly possible it could shake out like that.

I won't be shocked to see KC (but to a much lesser extent SD) lose in the division round to a hot team seeded 4, 5, or 6 (maybe Balt. KC/SD, IND). Then it's possibly two home games if we go in as #2, or one at home and one at a seemingly suddenly vulnerable Texans team if we snag #3, then AFCCG.

At this point I don't think we'd win two games, even at home, but I don't think it would be a blowout either.

Bonus points for pedantry

?????

Where's the pedantry? I think they would win the first game at home, but it's much more questionable on the road, and matchups become more important as the opponent get better, so I can't really predict the AFCCG until I know the setup of the AFCCG.

I honestly don't know. I think the conference is wide open, but I don't know how the offense is going to look now that they'll have to retool it, yet again, and with Edelman having problems with his foot.

Quitting on the season means I'm not watching this team and enjoying them for what they're worth. I fully plan on doing that. With your definition, fans of teams like the Browns that come in with no expectation of them winning the Super Bowl year after year means that they're quitting on their team, as well. Is that what you think? How about a team like the Colts? How many of their fans do you think believe they have a realistic shot of winning the Super Bowl? Do you think the ones that would say they don't have much of a realistic shot at it have given up on their team? Of course not. Such an assumption is asinine and idiotic. So it's really no different if we do it for the Patriots. Thinking that we have no realistic shot of winning the Super Bowl =/= giving up on the team. If you think it does, I'd be curious to hear your explanation on exactly why.

I didn't call out half the board. I called out the homers that get outright delusional whenever the topic of a glaring weakness or glaring weaknesses in the team get brought up.

For some reason you couldn't handle me pointing out that it was you who has quit so you decided to make fun of how I look. And nope I don't like that.

I can handle it just fine. Especially when it's outright wrong. I just give back what I get. And go ahead. I won't cry about it. But you'll be getting heat in response.

Let's just go ahead and get this out of the way - The Patriots are definitely going to win the Super Bowl this year. Yes or no? And, after that, why or why not?

I didn't think so either. I just think he was a stopgap in order to try to spur the offense after the early season struggles. I think they were going to go into the offseason with a replacement plan there. Regardless, it sucks losing him and will most certainly hurt.

It will definitely hurt us. Three, four, more 20 yard catches at the right time from him and we could have been in a better position. But, he didn't have it in him.

OK? And that does little to change my view that this team is unlikely to fare well in an AFCCG.

The Patriots will win the Superbowl this year because they have the best coach and QB in the league.

There are zero great teams in the league this year. As flawed as the Pats are they are among several teams with a decent shot at winning it all.

Then why didn't they win the Super Bowl in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017? All years when Brady was healthy. Leaving out 2007 since he sustained an ankle injury prior to that game.
