Patriots Player Departure Josh Gordon Stepping Away?

Drama Queens bring their problems to work.

Fact.

Well now we we'll see if Philip Dorsett learned anything he's been on the pine for a while he should be hungry for playing time. IF we weren't going to address the position seriously in Offseason 2018 we should of kept Danny Amendola. The man is Clutch on Third Downs and in the Playoffs that's no excuse GM BB.

I hope the Patriots continue to support him and maybe he is back next year or after but I wouldn't rely on him on nothing more than a 4th WR option.
Obviously not due to talent but he can't be relied upon.
Patriots need to draft boyscouts at receiver to avoid this in the future.
Guys with the attitude of Matt Slater and yes Danny Etling who was a boyscout doesn't grow on trees.

Yeah I agree with everything you are saying? Who is feeling sorry for him? I don't know the guy. All I am saying is that drug addiction is a brutal thing. He obviously can not handle being an NFL player and needs to step away for good and hopefully finds a different path in life.

The Patriots are the ones who made a mistake here by completing mismanaging their WR corps this year. Absolutely brutal mismanagement.

Two veteran WRs in Britt and Matthews who appeared to be good to go until they got hurt - one not until Camp. Edelman's suspension didn't even come up until after the draft (Thanks, Roger!).

I'm not sure how that's "brutal mismanagement". Sh it happens. With roster limitations and cap limitations, it's simply not possible to have a contingency plan for every circumstance.

Part of me wonders if constantly going deep into the post season hurts our preparation for the draft. Other teams have almost a month head start...I know Bill has talked about that before

Of-course but the Draft misses when other Teams have hits is no excuse and I am not talking about just First Rounders. We have had some horrible consistent Drafts with very little Youth to speak of.

Addiction is a lifelong disease.

Success does not make the disease go away.
Being on a better team does make the disease go away.
Having willpower does not make the disease go away permanently.

Changing environment, taking the right advice from medical professionals, putting yourself around the right people, cutting off access to substances (the hardest to do, especially with how easy they are to get, including alcohol), constantly making plans to avoid be around any type of addictive substance (again, alcohol is everywhere), all of these things help to treat the disease, but even in the very best situation most addicts relapse over and over again.

In terms of “demons” or some idea that his upbringing led to this, science is leaning much towards it being a genetic condition and way more common than you think. I’m sure that’s the reason why about 90% of the “bad character” college players aren’t drafted. Teams know guys in college are immature idiots...it’s the lifelong drug and alcohol dependency that you can’t fix.

@Triumph you really are a dumb fuc for rating this post as funny and for a series of stupid, idiotic other posts here. There’s times for trolling and times for not trolling. You must be a sad, pathetic little guy, likely a loner with zero friends, or live at home with your parents, if you haven’t dealt with someone with a serious drug addiction. The stuff you say is ignorant, wrong, and moronic beyond belief. If you ever get out your parents basement, maybe get a mail-order girlfriend, start living a pathetic social life, whatever is the best you can do, you’ll start to realize there are some real world issues out there that aren’t as simple as you think. Dumbass.

I'm looking at this glass half full so just hear me out. We have criticized Brady this season for focusing too hard on a single target this season (specifically Josh Gordon). Losing him does diminish our offense from a depth/talent point of view but could this help Tom to start spreading the ball to not the best receiver but the open receiver?

Well see this Sunday

Honestly, I don't think he plays another down in the NFL...it's a shame because he was playing and fitting in so well here.

I hope the Patriots continue to support him and maybe he is back next year or after but I wouldn't rely on him on nothing more than a 4th WR option.
Obviously not due to talent but he can't be relied upon.

I can't imagine this was anything but his last chance at football. You can't rely on him. And he's also getting up there in years.

For all the clamor about needing a huge talent infusion on defense (I share that point-of-view) this WR position is incredibly bareboned. Compare who we will trot out there this weekend to the players that the Steelers used last week.

Edelman's catch rate and TDs are exceeding what he did in 2016 ... in spite of the "continuous drops".

I really wish folks would check the stats at least once in awhile before making judgments.

Show me that TD/drop passes ratio from Sunday's game @ Pittsburgh. Also show me those obscure clutch stats from that game as well.

It boggles my mind that there are people who still believe letting Amendola walk away was the right decision, especially in the predicament the Pats' offense has been all season long.

fng pathetic to hammer this guy - from drugs to alcohol to porn - addiction is rampant in our society. He tried and exceeded most people's expectations with this team. As far as the team is concerned - next man up - or not..

As was discussed when we signed him, everything he has failed a test for since college is weed and his DUI here in Raleigh.

There is no evidence that has been shared by anyone to date that he has failed a test for anything other that booze and weed.

Yeah, it's always weed, smdh. Per the CBA the league and the union are bound to strict confidentiality. When it comes to the substance involved so the only word we get of what substance a player got popped for is the player, his agent or media speculation so naturally the substance is weed, because no one gets excited about weed. Think about it, a player gets popped for weed everybody just shakes there head but let that same player get popped for crack and the fans would lose their ish with him.
