Our OL has played like **** all season. They're still not run blocking good, but what McDaniels is starting to do is play to their talent. Meaning, he's using screens to protect poor pass protection. That will be key, bottom line. As long as we're on top this isn't even a concern. But if we do fall behind, don't panic, don't go down field. Slowly slice them apart with screens.

They can't do it all the time but judicious use of the "no huddle" will help stop the jets from scrambling/disguising their defenses so much.

The O-Line has played alot better than worse. there have been bumps in the road but they are one of the better ones in the league and i'd take them.

I think it is obvious improvement with the offensive line communication and they have been greatly improved since the miami game. i think that game was a wake up call.

I think their are two ways to handle this when passing, it will be a good strategic battle.

1. Short quick routes over the middle. Dump off passes to the rb. Screens if there is enough time to let it develop. And as some suggest slants.

2. Max protection when they are blitzing hoping it leaves the wr in a one on one matchup where Brady will have enough time to hit a recv'r for a gain of 20 or more yards when there is no safety to rotate over because he is blitzing.

Yes, this is key. They pull the trigger successfully on this early once or twice, and Mr. Mangini's troops will have to play this offense with a little more respect.

teams blitz on first and 10 all the time. you are talking about obvious pass rush situations versus a blitz. teams also run blitz too on what is pwerceived as a running down.

There's another instance when teams blitz - when they don't know, from the formation read, what the offense is going to do.

Mangini wants us to run ... he will bait us to run. Expect at least 40 passes from Brady Sunday.

Mangini wants us to run? I guess this is true in the sense that he'd love to stop the Patriot running game at all cost. And if he is stopping the run then sure, he'd love us to keep running. Mangini is going to do whatever is necessary to stop the run but not because he wants us to run (if he can stop the run with a normal defensive set he will. If he can't he will have the safeties crowd or outright play 8 in the box he will). It will be because a successful Patriot running game means a greater chance of a Jet Defeat. His mindset will be..... stop the run, make longer third downs for the Patriots, get to Brady and force hurried/bad throws and maybe a mistake or two or three. If this is not the game plan, he is either a fool or an evil genius (depending upon the score). Why would they significantly change a formula that proved successful last time the Pats - Jets played? IMHO, Mangini wants us to pass much more than he wants us to run.

What a amazing, fun thread: every opinion under the sun and a lot of them make sense!

I'm not going to predict what schemes we'll see, but the scheme versus scheme strategies for this game are...I hate using this word but it's accurate...UNIQUE. It's like playing your clone. Two scheme masters going at it.

What we know about BB is that he values surprise and unpredictability more than a given formula for a given team. Having beaten the Colts badly one way, the next time he does something different. I would be shocked if EM has fallen far from this same tree. Therefore, one thing I think is highly likely is that we will see new schemes from each team.

The other thing I think is clear is that, on the whole, the Pats have superior personnel. BB is going to want to pit talent against talent (I'd be shocked if he takes Dillon/Maroney off the field to go spread), whereas EM is going to want to pit scheme against talent as he did with the blitz scheme in November. BB used scheme against talent to beat the Rams in 2001, so we know it can be done.

The other thought I've been having this week is EM's innate advantage: he has a complete understanding of BB's strategic philosophy whereas, despite BB's familiarity with EM, EM's body of work as a head coach strategist is still limited.

Bottom line: I think the Pats win, but a scheme against talent win by the Jets -- a la Pats/Rams 2001 -- would not be a shock.

What caused the Pat's Offense a lot of problems against the Jets was when the Jets rushed 7 and even 8 once I believe. That was also what the Bronco's did against the Pat's with great success, but you shouldn't see the Pat's Offense looking totally confused when the Jets essentially copy what the Bronco's did.

Unless and until NE proves they can overcome this "jailbreak" type of blitz...we need to be concerned. This is about the only way I can envision the Jets having any kind of chance tomorrow at all. Denver did it last year and this year, Miami did down there and of course the last game we played Vs the Jets. They all have been able )at times) to bring more pressure than we have shown the ability to handle.

I would hope that NE has figured this all out by now.

I do expect to see us dominate via the run and power passing game to the backs and tight ends - however, opening up with the spread offense to open up the running game would not surprise me one bit.

I totally agree. John Lynch and Kerry Rhodes do similar things and cause similar issues.
