Except when you want to argue that Mayo is an elite MLB because he has 40 more tackles than any other player.
164-145=19 not 40
Just thought I'd let you know

Doesn't mean crap to me. They are winning, he is the middle linebacker.
As long as they are winning I could care less how many tackles he has.
The following should be pretty self-explanatory:
Grayed out names are safeties, the rest are linebackers.Code:Name Tackles Snaps T/S Mayo 164 938 0.17 Tulloch 145 995 0.15 Greenway 127 839 0.15 Posluszny 126 936 0.13 Fletcher 124 925 0.13 Lews 124 875 0.14 Whitner 124 936 0.13 Timmons 121 861 0.14 Willis 116 886 0.13 Anderson 115 921 0.12 Ward 114 921 0.12 Jones 113 844 0.13
Love when someone uses actual evidence to debunk everyones theory that he only has X amount of tackles because he is on the field longer than everyone else because of our **** d... has the highest tackle per snap ratio of those top 10... check mate
And if you look at the numbers even if he played the same amount of snaps as greenway (the fewest on that list) he would still be leading the league by 1 tackle
Let me make up a scenario. I say again, this is FICTIONAL.
But lets imagine that on every play, the opposing offense rushed right up the middle, and knocked Mayo on his back, then tripped over his body. Mayo gets +1 tackle. This happens on all 65 defensive plays. Mayo finishes with 65 tackles. This happens every game over the season. Mayo has like 1,000 tackles because he gets run over, then the defender simply trips on him. Is he the best player in the NFL?
All he posted was a chart that shows that Mayo has the most tackles on a team by a large amount. It doesn't say anything else. I also don't think our D sucks, I think they stay on the field longer than most and have a poor 3rd down stopping %. They create more turnovers than all but a few teams. And the fact that they are on the field for more plays leads to ....thats right, more tackles for the leading tackler! Wow that's tough.
Dude, we're being trolled hard here.
So someone brings up hard stats, which you dismiss in favor of a hypothetical, and a poor one at that? I hope you understand why people aren't taking you seriously. I don't think I've seen anyone claim that Mayo is "all-world" or even the best LB in the NFL, but I have seen plenty of people point to this as evidence that Mayo has been a very solid contributor to this defense and that he has POTENTIAL to be a huge player as he develops big play ability.
I haven't denied his potential, or current ability. But he doesn't make big plays often. Until he does he won't get respect apart from being a very solid MLB and a sure tackler.
.
Best MLB in the AFC?
Alright, I'll concede. Mayo leads the league in tackles. He's probably the best MLB in the NFL. Good debate you've all convinced me with your compelling arguments and hard "stats" that tackles are the end-all argument of who is the best. Merry Christmas, all!
Completely agree, it's nice to see the 'agressive' Mayo who can really drill a guy when he has a chance.
That said, don't be surprised in the LEAST if he gets a fine for a couple of his hits today...I don't think anything was dirty in the least but he had at least one h-2-h hits and the other monster hit seems the type they love to fine just for the hell of it this season. In fact, I could see a few different fines coming the Pats way considering McCourty got one last week. Whatever, this defense was impressive today, I could care less!

I think today's game was his best as a Patriot but yeah, as some said, don't be surprised if he gets fined.
