Boston Herald Patriots beat writer Jeff Howe reported this afternoon fullback James Develin will be placed on season ending injured reserve after fracturing the tibia in his right leg Friday night in the third preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.

Too bad. Will be interesting if they are preserving the IR with in-season return for someone else, or if it's just that unlikely that Devlin will be healthy soon enough to contribute.

This was a move that BB did not want to make. If there was anyway possible, he wanted Develin back this season which concerns me because there may be a more critical player who requires the IR-DTR.

His TD against the Texans a while back was epic.

Hopefully he recovers well and returns next season to kick some butt.

What I like best about Devlin is the toughness brings to every play. Just a big strong hard nosed lunch pail guy. He attacks the second level in a way that RBs and TEs not named Gronk cannot. TE is the closest position in terms of responsibilities with the current (but dynamic) roster. Will be interesting to see what he decides to do.
