These three guys (and Bolden) getting passes and contributing on O is perhaps more indication of the true greatness of Brady. Almost any QB can chuck it to Moss in his prime - but can they make Bolden & Izzo look like players ?

Both were brilliant designs and calls by McDaniels where Brady really only needed to execute.

So if you really want to take some cred away from the two it should definitely go to the OC who drew up the check down to Izzo for a TD and put a personnel package together that ended up with Bolden on a LB for that wheel route.

Fortunately this time the OL held long enough for Brady to follow through unlike last week against the Bills when he could not throw to Gordon in the end zone.

Call him the Maus ( Germany's largest tank , they ironically called it Mouse (Maus)

From where he was a few weeks ago this is huge improvement. He still has a long way to go but FB is a spot where you can improve quickly in the NFL if you have the physical tools and will to throw your body around.

This makes me hopeful come playoff time there won't be too much difference between him and Develin.

As expected, he got a few holes and suddenly he looks decent again. Fancy that.

I was thinking more along the lines of people have been waiting for him to get involved in the passing game. 3 att for 3 conpketions and 32 yards is a very nice intro course, IMO.

I think having Develin on the sidelines helps with his progression so far. Let’s remember Develin is a smart bloke, so that must be helping him!

He looked lost in the first half but definitely turned it up in the second. I think he might have a higher ceiling as a lead blocker than Develin and he has some great foot speed, but one place he's clearly behind with Develin is when splitting out. He looks a bit lost out there. But that will come in time.

Johnson didn't look lost in the first half.. He was picking up his guys appropriately. He had an excellent game overall and it was a vast improvement over his previous..

Our new FB...

I still like Maus ... let's hope Jakob continues to improve his play

Yep, he seems to be better at the pure physical aspects of the game rather than being a fluent, interchangeable Erhardt-Perkins piece. It'll take time considering how new he is to football, but FB is the perfect position to ease a raw athlete into the sport while still getting contribution.

FWIW, Johnson is 100% new to his position, but not to football. He was well-recruited as linebacker coming out of high school and played 4 years in the SEC. The trick is, 2 of those years were on defense, the other 2 trying to switch to tight end having never caught a ball before.

Before joining the Patriots camp, I don't believe Johnson had ever even played on a team that had a fullback position, let alone played fullback himself.

Interesting, could have sworn the media has been reporting it the way I said (I don't doubt for a second you're right though).

I guess it's just more fun to picture Johnson getting discovered wandering the streets of Stuttgart! From what I can gather he stumbled into American football as a kid, played in the German Football League, then spent a year at an American high school hoping to catch the eye of college recruiters. He bounced around different positions at Tennessee then was injured and missed his pro day so he didn't get any NFL nibbles and returned to the GFL.

My favorite bit I've read about him is how football became his sport:

Growing up in Stuttgart, Germany, Johnson was an energetic kid. He joked that he always used to get in trouble at school for wrestling with his friends, so his mother tried to get him involved in as many sports as possible to give him an outlet for that energy.

“I did soccer, basketball, wrestling, everything, a lot of them at the same time, but they never really powered me out,” Johnson said. “So my mom found an article in the newspaper about a local football team, put me in there and I came back from practice and she said it was the first time I just ate my food, shut up and went to bed. So she was happy and I just stuck with it.”

Undrafted and seemingly out of luck, Germany's Jakob Johnson relishing opportunity with Patriots

Then he should hone his skills on the Practice Squad where he belongs.
Maybe that was fine until Develin went onto IR, but since then things have changed.

That injury to Develin was a real pain in the neck as far as the plan for developing Jakob.

Even more fortunately, this time they weren’t called for it.
