He's probably already our 3rd TE but if he can switch to FB that makes room for Dipre or saves a roster spot if he does both. If he's FB we probably need someone else to be TE3 either Dipre or someone else. We'll see either way works for me. Maybe we find room for all 3 if they all play well.
During Josh’s prior stays, the team usually carried three TE’s total and rostered a FB. Four players. Injury sometimes altered this roster allocation, but generally that was the setup.

I’d also add that despite being active for 15 games, Bell played the 8th most snaps on one of the better special teams units in the NFL. He played and played well. Casual fans only see glory stats, receptions, but Bell provided value.

No arguments from me I'd put Bell ahead of Dipre or Lampe right now

I don't see him on the 53 this year. He is undersized and doesn't really do anything exceptionally well nor is he a freak athlete. Place him on the practice squad and see if he can be developed into a 2nd or 3rd stringer for next year if they move on from one or both of Hunter/Hooper. Next years free agency and/or draft needs to drum up a TE or two.
Lampe is built like a tank... I don't think bell has that physique. Cut him. Last year evals and selection were all so arbit outside of Maye who was ordered to be drafted by Kraft .

Kraft should get credit for Maye and firing Mayo.

I can envision Dippre dressing with the 53 as the top two TEs get dinged up with injuries. Happened before, odds are it’ll happen again.

As Mark Morse writes, the Patriots were fortunate to land CJ Dippre as a UDFA.
We will see who Blocks better than Dippre and Lamp. Both those guys will help a OL: Lamp goes in motion a lot to block or sneak out for a pass. Josh will make us know how good he is I think Dippre will make it; he won't beat most in a foot race but he can be schemed open. Dippre's Blocking is his ticket to the NFL. H Henry and A Hooper blow at Blocking.

J Bell have a NFL year under his belt that counts for something. McDaniels have some players with potential.

Last year counts only for Maye and Boutte to a certain extent . All others just got handed an extended preseason . Not sure if that experience counts much..

I'm not counting him out yet; that's what makes TC fun. A little birdie told me WR Javon Baker is looking good in OTA's.

Agreed SBB, I don't know why some are writing him off..
I think the simple answer is probably the state of the roster last year leaves people wanting something new.

But Individually like Vrabel said clean slates.

Bell played out of he backfield in college, he blocked, ran and caught the ball. Plus maybe more importantly he’s a good athlete, not a stiff.
Good athletes for college arent really what the NFL is built on

I think Hoopers contract tells us Bell is a very long shot
he has to be a better blocker than Dippre or Lampe, and his tape says he is not
Dippre is a solid blocker as a TE, and Lampre is a solid blocker as a FB. Bell will be on the PS at best (barring any injuries).

I wouldn't. He can't block well just as a TE (Dippre already has that ahead of him), let alone as a led blocking FB (Lampe already has that ahead of him).
They both were UDFAs right? I'm not saying they aren't intriguing but I'll wait until training camp before I start moving guys around the depth chart.

Good athletes at any level are good athletes, in lieu of a great, average or poor one I’ll put my money on the good one.

Dumbest thing ive heard in awhile and thats hard

You watched zero, literally none Jaheim Bell tape. Stop lying.

Moreover insisting Lampe, an UDFA prospect and poor athlete who has never played a down of professional football, is clearly ahead of Bell who not only made an NFL team last year but played the 8th most special teams snaps on one of the better units in the NFL is silly.

Yeah, the NFL is made up of a lot of bad athletes.

Don’t sniff glue and post, it’s a combustible mixture.
