J.C. Jackson - "It's time to get Mr. INT paid."

Starting in 1998, Ty Law was was regarded as one of the best CB’s in the game along with Sam Madison.

However, this board wants to forget he had games where he got beat badly against WR’s in the AFC East in 1998 and 1999. Granted, the competition was way better, but the board acts like he was never beat. He also struggled in Bill’s first year in 2000 and 2002. Point is, CB’s get beat on occasion and Jackson plays in a league where it’s much easier for WR’s to get open and make plays.

Jackson is the most intriguing FA this offseason. I thought teams would chomp at the bit to get him last season, but only heard crickets.
Ty law was my favorite player growing up Sam Madison respected his game greatly.
I would take either of them over JC Jackson.
JC is more Assante than Ty.

What I do hate about the JC Jackson situation, especially the publicly they don’t want me.
Belichick, Patricia, Judge, are the hardest coaches to play for.
None of the three are buddy buddy or quote u quote player coaches.
That along with the weather, along with JC telling the world the Patriots don’t value their best players.
It’s going to be tough to get free agents to buy in.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. We've been hearing that from players for years now (going back to Asante and others). Yet you still have players like Edelman who not only stayed here for less money, but are vehemently pro Patriots and pro Belichick guys. There will always be players willing to play here, and of course in the end money talks anyway.

Wow if JC is that outspoken I can see them mutually parting ways. For JC it's a win win even if tagged. I would like to see 17.5 Mill or whatever it is spent on two or three players rather than just one.

Agree, I can’t get over the 15 Mill for Agholar it makes no sense.
I would love to know if all the decision makers were on board with that?
Or did Bill and or Josh go rogue again.

Don't get me started on that the Bourne contract helps them save face. I know for one I would have Never! given Agholor close to that. But their WR evaluation is so bad I'm not even going to knock it.

Agholor was somewhere around the 10th worst big contract given to a WR last offseason. I sure hope you didn't want Smith-Schuster, Golladay, Fuller, or Samuel, who all had absolutely disastrous seasons after being signed in free agency last year.

Brady was here then.

Brady was here then.

Which is why Lawrence Guy, David Andrews, Ted Karras, and Kyle Van Noy all came back in the offseason, despite it being (at the time) Cam Newton at the helm? Agholor, Bourne, Henry, and Smith all joined because Brady (while in Tampa) told them to? Like I said, money talks, but there are other reasons to come here besides Brady. There are players who came here for Brady, but his black hole level pull power for free agents has been over exaggerated.

No one went rogue.

In 2020 Agholor was 29th in yards, 17th in TDs and 2nd in YPC. Not bad at all.

His AAV is 23rd out of all WRs.

His contract sucks because of his 2021- not because of his 2020.

If he rebounds and has another 2020 in 2022 then the contract is commensurate with the production

Ty Law was one of my favorites as well. In fact, the entire secondary (minus Chris Canty and Chris Carter) between 1996-1999 had the most swag where they'd all dance after a turnover. They were ahead of the times.

Madison was a beast.

Yes, lets blame Jackson and the defense because MACaroni arm and the offense could not score points or at least stay on the field long enough for the defense to get a break. 3 INTs and 2 fumbles with QB ratings of 31.4 and 75.8 in the Buffalo losses.

MACaroni cant win from behind as it is and you want to blow up the pass defense.

So you are blaming Mac Jones that in two games vs. the Bills, the Patriots defense stopped one drive total? Not one punt by the Bills. Not one INT. Not one forced fumble. One turnover on downs. The Bills had 14 real drives in two games (not counting them closing out the half or game). In those drives, they scored 11 TDs, 2 FGs, and one drive ending on downs. And you are going to blame the offense and Mac Jones for that?

In the AFC Wild card game, Jones completed 24 of 38 passes for 232 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. Not great numbers, but not disaster numbers. Certainly not bad enough play to blame him for the defense giving up TDs on seven straight drives.

He had a good year with the Raiders 100 percent, I would of loved the signing for 5 mill a season. For 15 mill it was atrocious.
His one season could of been a mulligan vs his Eagles career.
Now to be fair he was very sure handed when called upon and I recall at least / very high sideline passes he went up and snagged contested.

There was very little separation.
So I don’t know if the Raiders schemed better to get him in good spots to make big plays.
Or if he was so concentrated on the playbook or following
Thru the catch that it affected his production.

That being said unless Agholar becomes Tyreek Hill or Lockett not anywhere close to the money we paid him.

A 15 mill receiver is Stephon Diggs, Calvin Ridley with his head on straight, ceedee lamb, deebo Samuel, AJ brown, Terry Mcclauren. Justin Jefferson. Jamar Chase, copper Kupp, Deandre Hopkins’s, Tyreek Hill, detroits version of Kenny Golladay,
Jaylen waddle, Devonta Smith.

I wouldn’t blink if we were paying any of them that kind of money.

None of the guys you mentioned are stars and had little interest from others and the FAs came because they got paid a lot of guaranteed $$. The days of home team discounts died with the dynasty when their franchise QB left. Get used to it.

I think you need to adjust your expectations for what a certain amount of money actually gets. Stefon Diggs got $14.4M in 2018 (the cap has risen 17.5% since then) when his career high in yards was 903. Tyreek Hill got $18M per year in 2019 (the cap has risen 10.6% since then) when his value was low because of another domestic abuse accusation. Cooper Kupp got $16M per year in 2020 (the cap has risen 5% since then) when he wasn't even the Rams' clear cut #1 receiver, much less the NFL's #1 receiver. DeAndre Hopkins' Cardinals extension was $27M per year in new money to get him under contract in 2023 and 2024. Those players hitting the market with the 2022 cap would all be getting $25M per year, not $15M.

That's ignoring, of course, that Agholor isn't getting $15M this year. That's a heavily backloaded cap hit due to the temporary cap decrease last season.

It puts it in perspective thank you for laying that out.
It doesn’t look as terrible as once thought.
Golladay and Fuller both got less than Agholar and I would of much rather had either of them.

Good time to be a NFL player.

What ex-Pats players have said disagrees with you.
the ex patriot players who speak about this stuff are usually the ones who have an axe to grind...

There are very few players who take remarkedly less... in many cases the Patriots have given guys the rope to go seek free agent deals elsewheres, and then signed them... they have tagged ten guys, resigned some, sent others packing...

I dunno what else to tell you Venecol... its how business is done all across the NFL and in New England...
