Its not a sexy discussion but what are we doing at TE?

Actually it will be the saints 2011 7th round pick

Which we will trade for 2012 6th rd, 2013 5th rd, 2014 4th rd, 2015 3rd rd, 2016 2nd rd, and 2017 1st rd.

Then, we'll trade the 2017 1st rd for 2018 1st and 2nd......

Eventually we'll own all of the draft picks in the 2050 draft.

Tim Tebow will be drafted as our third second round pick and used as an H-back, run the wildcat, goal line, and developmental QB. ( Ok maybe not ).

This is as good a time as any to point out that last summer we gave away Dave Thomas for the last pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

yea...no idea why we did that....wish we had given the guy more of a chance

I wonder if the Patriots like the idea of the jumbo formation and using an additional OL instead of an additional TE. The Saints did this frequently last year with Zach Streif. It's possible that the Patriots might be looking at LeVoir or the loser of the 3 way starting Tackle competition to play a similar role in the offense. Out of the FA options, I have heard that Alge Crumpler has made a late career change in to a pretty solid blocking TE after being more of a pass catcher with the Falcons.

We did use not only a 6 man line in several games but most times it was unbalanced as well. Instead of trying to get Aiken to block why dont we get LeVior or Vollmer to catch? The cost effectiveness of a TE is negligable til we get to the red zone anyways. TEs dont play much on ST either, not even the backups really. It wouldnt surprise me to see it be the pinky toe of this team. I say give Dante a couple more OL but we will still need a BIG red zone WR.

We'll probably sign a washed up TE or two then draft a rookie TE or two and see what sticks. Sometimes the washed up tight ends aren't as washed up as you thought. Christian Fauria for example actually made positive contributions for the Pats even as a second string TE.

One thing that I will say is if this year's first round pick is spent on a tight end, I'm smashing my face into a wall.

What about a second round pick used on Olsen?

It seems the jumbo formation is the way the Pats are trending

I wouldn't mind seeing the Pats look at Daniel Coats since he was released..

This is also a good time to remind you that in 2009 Rd 6 we drafted Pryor, and Rd 7 Edelman, both of whom made the team and contributed.

Dave "Wendys" Thomas could not stay healthy when here.......time came to move on

I disagree it was time to move on. You've already put in all this time to develop a TE -- a position that a lot of people think takes the longest to adapt to in the NFL -- and then you trade him for nothing in his fourth (fifth?) season. I thought it was a dumb move at the time and it looks even worse in hindsight. Especially given that they clearly have no intention of signing Watson. Now the cupboard is bare.

And didn't they end up keeping instead some stiff Matthews -- who they traded for! -- and then promptly cut?

Not one of Belichick's finest moments is all I'm saying. But I look forward to our 2010 first round TE.

Peyton Manning Retires! | Sportales

The same site also says that Peyton Manning has retired...............

Here is a great idea, why don't we re-sign Ben Watson

Seems like everyone has given up hope of that happening. I'd hate to see us lose a guy with such physical tools especially going into a season w/o Welker as the go to guy.

What about a trade for Martellus Bennett? I know he's been a little unhappy with his role b/c of Witten. I think he could be a good addition at the right price. Kind of similar to Watson with his athleticism and speed down the seam.

Whatever they do this time, I hope it's alot better than what they HAVE been DOING at the TE position.

Talk about pathetic.
