I was checking the analysis of the 1st round when I read this interesting little blurb.

15 (15) New York Giants: DE Jason Pierre-Paul, South Florida
The most physically gifted pass rusher in the draft, Pierre-Paul has natural bend, athletic ability and movement skills that cannot be taught. The big question surrounding his future is whether he will ever be able to learn how to rush the passer against more polished NFL blockers, given his lack of instincts and learning deficiency. He is very much a raw, developmental project at this stage in his career, but the Giants have a strong support network in place and the type of depth on their roster to afford Pierre-Paul to be brought along slowly in a role as a nickel rusher. It could allow the Giants the flexibility to move the emotional Osi Umenyiora, as well.

So I have a very sneaking suspicion that the reason BB is so at ease with taking a corner in the 1st is that he might have a deal in place to trade for a veteran passrusher, and Umenyiora might be the guy??

So you think a 4-3 DE that was benched last year, and hasn't been good since Strahan was on the line is the answer?

I won't dismiss it as a possibilty but if you look at who's left, pass rushers are in a MUCH higher supply than corners. (at least 3 that I can remember at some point being mocked at #22 for the Pats)

IMO that's more likely the reason CB was the way to go for BB and company.

Mercifully it won't matter since the giants have gone on record this evening post pick stating that he is not available. I think once their main target was off the board, the JPP pick was for potential high ceiling, not high floor.

Kindle's stock is dropping like a rock since it was revealed that he had to have microfracture knee surgery, Hughes was taken by Indy, and the Dolphins are highly likely to pick an OLB early in the second round. I hope some good talent slides to the Pats, but even if it does who knows if they'll actually take the guy ;P

It doesn't have to be Osi in particular, but it did make me think. BB's MO is more to plug in veteran talent at OLB. BB has never really drafted an OLB high. Crable in the 3rd was the earliest that he's taken one.

Listen to his post 1st round press conference. When the reporters asked him about addressing pass rush he gave a typically noncommital response but he said that there's still there rest of the draft to go and other avenues for improvement. I think he might be thinking trade.

If its ANY Giant give me Justin Tuck

It isn't happening. Plain and simple. Move forward young man.

I mean I really doubt it happens but I thought this might be the case when we traded back into the 3rd round.
