Yikes Jets are losing Two First Rounders.
well actually they are just losing one 2nd rounder this year since they are getting the Packers #15 this year, and most LIKELY a # 1 next year.
I think the Packers did a bit better than most people expected. I think the "experts" expected a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year IF Rodgers played 2 years in NJ. In this deal the Packers gain 3 spots in the first, and barring injury a first next year REGARDLESS if Rodgers retires next season. PLUS they dump his contract on the Jets who will have a number of good players coming up on contracts.
As good as they could have expected.
For the Jete, they get a big upgrade at QB. But just how good remains to be seen. Rodgers is certainly very talented, but he is no Tom Brady at 40 spending every waking off season moment striving to get better. This is the Aaron Rodgers who shows up when he HAS to show up and has played his entire career in front of an adoring home crowd and local media, win or lose. Now he gets to play in front of Jets fans and media that will turn on you faster than a turbine.
As for the Pats, its a very low bar, but the Jets offense WILL be much better and more consistent. In a very middling division and good defense Rodgers led his team to the very same 8-9 record that we had here last season, though he will have more weapons in NJ. On the other hand the Jets are no longer in front of us, so to poach a player we'd have to see twice a year, nor will they have a 2nd rounders this year.
However a case can be made that Rodgers is coming to a situation very much like Brady did in 2020. A good roster needing the missing piece at QB. But we should know all too well, that Rodgers is no Tom Brady and very was, despite his vast physical talent.
