This Welker hate is just plain dumb. These people want to get rid of the player who provides the most offensive production is just mind blowing. It really is! They need to do their research! Should the Patriots dump Aaron Hernandez? He drops more passes then Welker. Heck Hernandez gets popped once and it effects his whole game. It's like he is afraid to make another catch and get popped again. Yet Welker takes a beating and gets no respect. I don't get it! I really Don't!

Vollmer and Talib (or other high quality CB) is more important than Welker at $10 million.

Vereen, Edelman, and Hernandez can be viable options in the slot receiver role. Welker has been a greatly productive player as a Patriot, but I'd rather have a field stretching WR at $10 million...

At a minimum we need:

1 OT - Solder, Cannon, Zusevics are only guys signed
2 WR - Lloyd and Slater are only guys signed
2 CB - Dennard and Dowling are only guys signed

and less important but still:

- We need a LB besides Mayo who can cover somebody? Hopefully Hightower becomes that player. But this has been holding our D back.
- We have no pass rush from the interior DL. If we don't add some young talent to DT/NT before Vince declines/retires we'll have a problem. Even if it's not young talent you still need another 300lb DL on the roster.

and that doesn't even mention all the other backup we need to sign which will take up cap space. I just don't see how Welker coming back is in the cards. It leaves you too little money to fill out the rest of the roster. I think we'll trade him for a pick much to the dismay of us all. However if we can trade Mallet for another pick and grab Brady a couple of young outside WR's we'd still score a ton of points.

This is a terrible argument. You just argued against Welker's drops by using a stat that doesn't account for drops.

What? If a target is dropped then the target/catch % drops, correct?

The real explanation for what you're talking about is that all of those other receivers had fewer catchable balls thrown their way, which in most cases can be attributed to them running routes further down the field that are harder for the QB to complete.

How do you know this? Prove it? Manning and Ryan had 69% pass completion for the season. Don't you think if they are throwing a larger number of uncatchable balls that their completion % would be lower?

The facts are Wes Welker is getting open and catching a larger percentage of his targets then any of the top receivers. You can take out drops, uncatchable passes if you would like to, it doesn't take away the fact that people want to get rid of a receiver who catches 68% of his 174 targets. Again, that's just mind blowing!!

So if they have such high hopes for Vereen then why wasn;t he part of the game plan against the Ravens. He could have been used as another receiver or used Welker as another receiver and moved Vereen in the slot. I don't think Vereen will be a Welker replacement. Wasn't this his first healthy season? He didn't even play a lot. Are your really going to take your chances on him to replace Welker after one season of being injured and one season of not playing much? I hope not!

So Vollmer and Talib, 2 guys who have a history of injuries is more important the the biggest provider of offensive production?

Talib is better then what the Patriots have at CB but he hasn't played an entire season without being injured for periods of time. Where was Talib when the Pats needed him most? On the bench hurt...again!

Hernandez and Edelman can't play the slot and provide the production Welker does. Hernandez drops more then welker and Edelman too. Edelman is injury prone, Hernandez has been to. Neither one of these two can run the routes and get open like Welker does. Matter of fact Edelman just needs to go. Use his money on keeping Welker. Edelman doesn't provide anything for this team. He has a ton of heart, but not talent.

Vereen? He missed a year due to injury and didn't play a bunch this season. You want him to take Welkers position? Seriously??

Yes. Because we all want him at the slot receiver position and not try and resign welker. A guy who caught 12 balls all year. But you want to worry about talib more than welker this off season. That right there is "spill my drink worthy"
