I see us taking our pick at # 24 BUT...if this is a deep draft maybe we trade down for 2 picks if someone wants a particular player. Get a extra/future pick.
thoughts?

I think it will depend on if there's a great value at 24 or not. Because of all the juniors coming out it's become a much deeper draft.

Let's say Hill gives them the total thumbs up on McCauley and they love his game film (this is just an example I have no idea if they like him obviously) and he is still available. They won't trade down much like they wouldn't when they took Wilfork even though they had a ton of offers. Wilfork at 21 that year was just way too good of a value.

If everybody they have graded out at a good value at 24 is gone however one scenario I like is the Pats trading down with the Browns who have the 3rd pick of the second round. I think they may feel the pressure to trade up and grab Troy Smith and because of the BB/RC connection they could make perfect trading partners.

I like these 10 def. players. My guess is that one falls to us. Or, we trade up a little for the right db. Not in ranking order but by position;

DL
A.Branch
J. Anderson
G.Adams
A.Okoye

LB
L.Timmons
P.Willis

CB
L. Hall
D. Revis

S
L.Landry
R.Nelson

Here's a list of 10 off. players I think will be gone when we pick in no particular order; B.Quinn,J.Russell,A.Peterson,M.Lynch,C.Johnson,D.Jarrett, T.Ginn, R.Meachem, J.Thomas and Levi Brown. There will be a couple of surprises. So, not far-fetched for one of 10 to fall a little.

It seems like it will be a deep draft, but the bowl games and combines will determine it. Hopefuly lots of players perform well in these and start pushing more players down to us.

I was thinking the same thing about our #1 pick. I am for trading down for a #2 plus.

I would think the redskins, as usual will be willing to mortgage their future drafts. According to the Great Blue North Draft site, 2008 is shaping up to be a great draft, maybe we could trade #32 for the Redskins #3 in 2007 and #1 in 2008.

That actually runs counter to their past tendencies.

If TPTB have their hearts set on getting certain players in round 1, they're more likely to try and trade up to ensure they get at least one of those players than trade down and stockpile extra draft picks.

It's deep at the front of the draft that's for sure. In almost any other year Quinn, Russell, and Calvin Johnson would all be consensus #1's. Adrian Peterson, one of the most polished RB's to come through the draft in awhile, will most likely fall to either #7 or #8.

They've traded up twice in the first round, once being Graham and the other being Warren. Warren was only one slot and just a thank you to the Bears who really didn't want him. They've traded out of the first round with Baltimore so they could draft Bollier and we got Wilson and Wilfork (the following year). When they drafted Wilfork Buffalo and a couple of other teams were hot to trade up and get either Stephen Jackson or JP Losman. Dallas eventually traded with Buffalo and we could have but didn't because BB & SP knew that was insane value at 24.

So they'll do whatever they need to do but it's all about value and they'll only trade up if they really love a play and feel it's value.

We're not trading out of the first, but trading down to 31, and having 31 and 32 is possible.

We won't trade out of the first round because first rounder have contracts one year longer than second rounders, and this is EXTREMELY important to the patriots, and for any team that does well at cap planning over time.

You can check the value sheet, but we probably could pick up a 3rd for moving to 31.

Also, I like the idea of having two picks in a row.

Exactly. I'm one of the blokes who doesn't have a problem with ANYTHING BB & Pioli decide to do on draft day. In this draft it is deep, with very few 'blue chippers' at the top...but with near-equal talent from #24 through our next pick. I think we'll stay at #24 and select a future starter.

I'd like this trade if it were our 1B pick. We'd pick 3rd in round 2 and acquire a day one pick in '08. Having extra picks in each draft allows us more flexibility in moving around the board.
