If Moses retires, these may be one-year options.

Have there been reports of Mayo telling the guys to stop lifting weights and running up the hill? This is a pretty tenuous and unsupported assertion. The guy's a first year head coach. It's game 6 of his first year and you already have noted he was left a pretty bare cupboard to work with. No, he's not immediately become a Master Chef, but if you expected that, then this was on you and your unrealistic expectations. Let them grow, and let him show what he can do. Why did so many start panicking as a fanbase when it was clear our expectations for this season were very low? I'm happy where we are and don't care if we lose every game from here on. We're rebuilding with a few decent pieces, several of whom are injured.
No there haven't been reports of that. But while you bring it up, different strength and conditioning coaches have different ways of handling players. Maybe it has nothing to do with deron mayo... maybe its all just back luck and timing... but what if it isn't? Given the rash of injuries, the question begs to be asked. Maybe there is nothing there, but the guys with access owe the team, players to at least ask the question and look into it, no? Can't just bury your head in the sand and expect the problem to go away...

I don't know what you expect from a coach - but I expect a lot more than what has been going on here. Regardless that he is a rookie coach its his responsibility, it is his job to make sure the team is prepared. The results have not been there. basic fundamentals seemingly have gone by the wayside...

The excuse of "he's new" only goes so far. After jettisoning BB, with all the issues we knew this team had - it screamed we need leadership who knows what it is doing, who knows how to walk the rebuilding path vs the bundle of inexperience we have roaming the sidelines.

Most of the people that are giving Mayo a hard time are the people that rode hardest for Bill and were resistant to him being fired. If you followed some of them, they were already trying to set parameters last March on what their standards to dub Mayo a failure for.

Bill left a bad team and nobody serious expected a good team this year.
One of my favorites is the complaint that if Bill was so bad at picking players why are they signing them, like the Pats have a choice.

I still can't believe how little talent Bill left us on offense. How the heck did that happen?

I know I posted the Zero Point Zero gif earlier but I'm changing that to a decent shot of being fired. He looks lost out there. There were a couple of plays he could have challenged and didn't. He wasn't getting heated with the refs in the first half when they were calling the most ticky of ticky-tack penalties on the Pats and nothing on the Texans. He didn't even use a timeout in the second half. I bet he's a nice guy who says all the right things behind the scenes but he's too milquetoast to be a head coach in this league. No passion. Just deer-in-the-headlights out there.
Looks can be deceiving.

My question is: Is Mayo a suckup (sycophant for those that know) to B&J K? Being the “nice guy” or as I prefer rahrah coach he is…could it be? Not saying I dislike him, just think there were better options (if ownership was willing to pony up the $).
How much does he make?

I'm 50 and I've been watching for close to 40 years. This is the worst 4 game stretch that I've ever seen the Patriots play. By 'worst', I mean things like too many penalties, poor tackling, poor clock management, lack of competitiveness, poor scheme, and too many mental mistakes like blown coverages.

Some of it can be blamed on lack of talent. Most of it is terrible coaching. We can't even get very basic stuff right- for example our timing on screens is atrocious... and every high school team should be able to execute that.

This is all against a backdrop of obnoxious, ridiculous comments that pour gasoline on this fire. "burn some cash", the fake QB competition, "thunder", etc....

Does Mayo still have time to turn it around? Yes.
Do I have confidence that he will? No.
Should he be fired he doesn't? YES!

Exactly. It’s almost like you have to field a team and most teams carry over most of last seasons squad.

Well, I don't know this Deron Mayo, so perhaps you're right. But what does it have to do with the Patriots?

The daily "lets bash Mayo thread" again, Jerrod has a comparable resume to Mike McDonald of the Dolphins (who was considered the next coaching genius), except our coach has played on Super Bowl teams and was tutored by BB...
As the cupboard is bare, give him a chance..
If there is vitriol it needs to be directed at Eliot Wolf, who has had a penchant for making some really crappy personnel moves..

Deron is the strength and conditioning coach for the Patriots ... You know the position that is most closely tied to injury avoidance thru proper strength and conditioning programs...

So you tell me what it has to do with the Patriots

I would argue that if you are going to give Mayo a chance, you have to give Wolf a chance too.

I would argue if they're doing badly at things they should know from experience in a football organization whether in a FRont Office or a football field then it's fair to give them ****.

It's Family Fun. Even I know that.

I think that might miss the point. Darryl was saying give Mayo a chance, but blame Wolf. He’s been in charge for less than a year, so I say it takes more than a year to repair BB’s neglect. So he deserves a chance too.

Sorry, Tom. From where I sit, all's fair in football and fandom.

you mean Mike McDaniel, who had 16 years experience coaching at the college and professional level before getting his shot at HC?

As for Mayo - playing ? coaching

yeah... not exactly the same is it?

Mayo getting the hatred from the blinkered BB lovers.

Jerrod had 4 under BB and played ball his whole life..
So you want to discount his playing time/experience with the Patriots??
He was here during the heydays of the Patriots so he understands what it takes to be a winner.

Discount it? No, not entirely. But its not the same as coaching. You think it is equivalent? Its not. Its not even close. He wasn't even a coordinator at the pro level. He never had that responsibility of making the defensive game plans for the team. Steve did that.

Being a player is a different experience. Experiencing something does not equate to being able to effectively teach people, lead people as a coach. That does not mean that he cannot learn how to do the job. But its ridiculous on its face to compare him to someone who has a decade more coaching experience than he does.

McDaniel was primed for a HC job. If Mayo had walked away from New England, how many real opportunities to be a HC would he have gotten?

Answer that question honestly and maybe you understand where I am coming from when it comes to him.
