Is Mayo Jonathan Vilma part II?

I'm willing to be patient with the kid as far as becoming an elite backer. What I would like to see more immediate improvement in is pass coverage. He REALLY struggles with that area of his game.

It's fair to expect more from a first rounder than from an all-time Patriot great, Pro Bowler, NFL Iron Man.

Fair.

Oh no, Mayo hasn't made a play all pre-season long. He must be a bust.

433 tackels 2.5 sacks and 6 INT's and 1 TD in 3.5 years with the jets says he was a very good player for the jets him and mangini, just did not like each other and the fact that David Harris, had a great rookie season will Vilma, was injuried made it easy for the JETS to trade him with he's contract comeing up

so many peopel are down on Mayo, cause he won DROY and then did not turn into patrick willis, or ray lewis, the next year so now he dose not fit the system :confused2:

THANK you.

Sophomore Slump is a danger that EVERYONE is susceptible to.

Mayo was already poised to take an HUGE leap forward, this year.

With Spikes ~ I STILL can't believe we actually GOT this guy!! :eek: NFL Forum :: - ~ WAY OutSide the Box: OTG’s Mock V2.0: The Big 12!! ~~ on board, their Collaborative Potential for this decade is IMMENSE.

*I STILL think their REAL impact will take 2011 AND 2012 to BEGIN to become apparent, because the Run Defense VORTEX at RDE, ROLB, LDE, and LOLB will drain them considerably for the next 4-16 weeks...And Merriweather's going to be too busy bailing out the Young Guns at CB, over the next few months, to compensate for the trouble Spikes, in particular, will likely have in the Passing Game, this first year...But once Deaderick, Brace, Pryor, Cunningham, Chung, Butler, McCourty, Wheatley, and crew start forging some Synchronicity with each other and the others, and are, perhaps, joined by the likes of Robert Quinn, Marcellus Dareus, and their ilk...the possibilities are UNIMAGINABLE.

Why do people here talk about Willis as if guys like him grow on trees or something. Noone else in the league makes plays like "a" Patrick Willis.

Excellent point.

Also: SB implies that Willis ~ 11th ~ was drafted immediately after Mayo, at 10...When, of course, they were drafted in different years.

  1. Of course. The ripping of his play, then, is based on what??? A few pre-season games when he is breaking in his new sidekick????
  2. A little perspective, folks.
  3. If pre-season performance meant everything, then Gisele Bundchen would be building a mansion in LA with Michael Bishop by now. ;)

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!! :singing: :rocker: :rocker: :singing:

I'm glad to see this thread and see a lot on posters who actually watch what the players do instead of getting their opinions from the media. Mayo is overated he routinely gets blocked and isn't very instintive. He's an average player that's all.

In the preseason watching how Spikes routinely takes the first step towards the play before Mayo has really shown this.

Mayo:

1 ~ HUGE impact his first year: Brought Order to Chaos.

2 ~ Limped through Year 2 with a debilitating injury. PERFORMED ACCORDINGLY.

***

Mayo has been

* Injured
* Carrying a weak OLB Crew
* Carrying a weak ILB Crew
* Training a new ILB
* Learning a complex system

He is POISED...For LAUNCH.

Best of all: He has the SECOND most UpSide of our ILB Crew. :eek:

All of these "Mayo is overrated" replies based on preseason games, playing injured all last year and by ignoring his rookie season altogether. Okay- we'll find out one way or another very soon.
