Is Josh McDaniels any good?

The playcalling is the second least concern for the offensive output, or lack thereof, this season.

....As a fan, I shouldnt be able to predict how EVERY SINGLE play is going to fail specifically, before the ball is even snapped. And yet I have done that on so many occasions this year...

No, you haven't.

Can someone explain to me how the hell Ridley only gets 11 carries yesterday.
He was averaging close to 5 yards a carry and gets only 11 carries. Instead we have Brady throw if 50 times. I am losing my faith McDaniels, big time.

Who was our OC in 2007 when we broke many league records including most TD passes (Brady) and receptions (Moss), most team TDs, most points in a season, and went 16-0 (18-0, really, but whatever)... yep. I thought so. Maybe it's the PLAYERS?

Perhaps his play-calling suited that offense but not the current one.

Precisely my point, if that is not TERRIBLE play calling then i don't know what is.

Not as good a playcaller as Weiss was when he was here.

What did Zach Thomas used to say about Charlie? Something about not even studying film for Pats games because he won't see the same thing once games started.

Oh and by the way it's not hard to look that good when you've got the greatest receiver ever who can reel in one handed catches like it's nothing over Revis and yes by that i mean Randy Moss.

Run the Damn ball. Even if they stuff you, run the ball!

The Jets are excellent against the run, actually being the best in the NFL.
The Jets are not as good against the pass.

What do you think any intelligent person would use as a basic game plan against the Jets?

Also, here are the runs when Ridley actually did get the ball:

1
2
5
7 (called back, holding penalty)
17
1 (called back, holding penalty)
4
0
1
12
8
0
0

Why the hell would people want more of that?

No, you haven't.

You'd be surprised how many times I mockingly do a play call in my head, then laugh and roll my eyes in annoyance because it plays out exactly how I envisioned it.

"It's 2nd and 12, I bet they run Blount in to the line here and he gets about one yard."

*actual play happens*

Now its 3rd down and 13 because he got stopped for a loss. The eye rolling commences.. Here we go again, 1/12 on 3rd down..

I hate the too predictable argument. It is such a bogus argument.

First, people say a play is too predictable many times because they correctly called a passing play based on the formation, but the passing play itself was a surprise play. That doesn't make it predictable. The opposing defense knowing that it is going to be a pass or a run doesn't mean they actually know where Brady is going to throw to or if the Pats are going to run to the middle or break outside.

Second, I always say that it is always more heartbreaking for a defense when they know what is coming and can't stop it. The Jets' play calling on the overtime drive was very predictable, but they drove down the field anyway without the Pats being able to stop it.

Third, on many of the plays people call predictable, the Pats still burn the defense and catch them off guard. In previous years, the Pats made the plays. This year not so much. If the Pats are too predictable and get a big game on the play, they aren't actually too predictable.

No, what I'd be surprised about is if you were actually getting this right:

I shouldnt be able to predict how EVERY SINGLE play is going to fail specifically, before the ball is even snapped. And yet I have done that on so many occasions this year, with the exception of the Falcons game.

That claim was a complete load of crap. It's like the people who tried claiming that the Patriots always run after they throw an incomplete on first down. It's just them completely ignoring reality in favor of their preferred impression of what actually happened.

maybe if the oline can block anyone , he can call a play ....20 sacks in 7 games. brady may not finish the season if this heralded oline sucks like this .

I know what I think and I know what I see, and very often they end up being the same thing. Maybe i shouldnt have said EVERY TIME, since you seem to be playing the semantics game, but it happens very often. Thats not an exaggeration.

And the running on 2nd down after an incompletion is accurate, the statistics back that up. I believe against Cincy the play calling was 5/5 on second down running plays after an incomplete pass.

Say what you want to deny it, but it is what it is.

Tell you what.... Feel free to take a look at the box score from this Jets game. Get back to me about that "running on 2nd down..." stuff. If that's not enough, go back to the Saints game from last week. Then go take a look at that Bengals game, and look at the plays at 1:57 and 1:50 of the second quarter, and at 1:48 and 1:44 of the fourth quarter.

As for the rest: like I said, you're choosing a falsely remembered version of reality that fits your gripe rather than the actual reality.

And don't try pulling out the "semantics" argument when you deliberately went all caps with the "EVERY SINGLE play" line.

I bet you that had the penalty call not made last night in OT, the Pats get the ball back, and score a FG to win the game, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

Emotions are running high. Mistakes were made, but let's put everything into perspective. It was a **** game plan and execution all around.

The most popular player on most teams: the backup QB.
The most disliked coach on most teams: the OC.

J. McD is the same OC that gave us record offensive stats in 2007 and 2012. Most of the time it is not the play calling,it's the players execution, that makes the play work or fail.

But like everyone, he has yet to call a perfect game. Also, one thing to keep in mind TFB changes many plays at the LOS.

That's a great point that's overlooked in this crucification of JMD.

Yeah, I remember a week or two ago people complaining about McDaniels for calling a play that was clearly a Brady check off in the red zone that failed miserably.

Saints game, 4th quarter.....
