Probably the best way to put it. Mayo can do everything that Lewis is capable of and is younger. I would say that Lewis is better at diagnosing a play and shooting the gap better than Mayo is but how much of that is due to the system that Lewis plays in vs. the system that Mayo plays in?

If he can, he has done a poor job doing it so far.

Lewis is a great LB,Awesome locker room motivator and the heart and sole of his defense.

Mayo has a LOOOOONNNNNNGGGG way to even be in the same sentence as what Ray Lewis brings to the table and a good chunk of Ray's asset on the team cannot be seen on a stat sheet.

Mayo is the best of an average LB corps here and that about sums it up.

I think a better question/poll would have been is Mayo better than:

DeMeco Ryans
Jon Beason
Patrick Willis

They are players who are only slightly older.

Ryans two time pro bowler and DROY.
Willis three time pro bowler, 2 time first team all pro, and DROY.
Beason two time pro bowler, 1 time first team all pro.

So the answer would still be no three times over, and not just because of the additional honors.

For Mayo to come even close to a career such as Ray Lewis he needs to become a locker room presence and motivator leader on and off the field,IMO he is continuing to work on fundamentals other than tackling and not at that leadership quality yet.

Mayo is an intelligent, football savvy MLB who may be all pro.. but right now he is not even close to being comparable to Ray Lewis..

If I were to pick an all star team.. Brady would be #1 pic and Lewis would be #2.. having watched this game for a long time, no one matches the intensity,football savvy and ability of Ray Lewis at MLB..

The opinion is wrong, though. Sorry to say. I love what Ray Lewis brought to the table as an ILB, but these days, he's only running on name brand alone. People think he's a good leader because he paints his face and screams before a game, but father time has definitely caught up to the guy. He isn't anywhere close to being the presence on the field that he used to be.

For proof, look at Mayo vs. Lewis when they went head to head earlier this season. The statistical discrepency between the two is actually quite alarming. And that was BEFORE we got Mankins back.
