Is Corey Dillon going to the Hall of Fame?

Hey, I love the year Dillon had two years ago but he's not going anywhere near the HOF. 2,000 more yards will not do it, and he'll be lucky to get 2,000 yds total the next two years and by then his yds/game will be nothing like a HOF'ers.

An accomplished, solid, tough nosed, runner with very good wiggle and decent speed (in his prime, which ended in 2004) will be how Dillon is remembered.

Wrong, buttboy, wrong. If he gets 2000 more yards (and I'm not saying he will, I'm saying IF) he will be in the HOF. He will be in the top ten rushers all time and all of the others who are retired are in. The other two, Martin and Bettis, WILL be in.

It's not out of the question he will get 2000 more either.

Well, it's good to keep in mind that there is a limit of players voted in each year. I think it's seven, which usually includes old-timers, coaches, broadcasters, etc. Think about everybody else Corey is going to be competing with in the upcoming years. Bettis, Martin, Edge, Favre, Roaf, Bruce, Shields, Woodson, Sanders, Dunn, Keyshawn, etc. And that's off the top of my head. There's a lot of borderline guys. Top 10 lists are always changing. Corey can make it and the next season two guys pass him.

Bottom line is the HoF is supposed to house the best players of all time. I don't think Corey's been dominant long enough to get serious consideration.

That's so depressing. Well, at least there's one HOF vote that Bledsoe can count on.

Another 2k yards rushing (puts him ahead of Brown @8) and Dillon's a lock for the HOF. If another Lombardi is also part of that improvement, then he might be a 1st ballot entry.

If he stays with the Pats he's likely to get another ring so the question then becomes, "can he rush for another 2k yards?"

THis is about as dumb as the "Does FLutie make the HOF" thread. Dillon won't even be on the ballot. That's not a dig on him, he's been an above average back.

That's exactly what I've been saying. Thanks for backing me up!

I like him, but he just doesn't seem to have the cache of a HOFer. I know that's subjective, but my gut says no.

And all of the people he has pissed off over the years won't hlep his chances either.

Bringing this thread back...you guys think he should/will make it or no

Thread bump much??

I think he has a shot. I think if he just fell of into obscurity after he left Cincinatti then he wouldn't have as near of a good chance. I think his big redemption year in 2004 when he helped us win the 3rd Lombardi really helps his case. Having 37 rushing TD's over his 3 years here really helps his statistical case as well. I'd give him a good 40-50% chance to get in at the very least.

He probably should but he won't. His six straight 1,000 yard seasons on a bad Cincinatti team are really amazing. Those are Adrian Peterson numbers (Peterson had 4). But the HOF is as much about popularity as statistics and talent. Namath has no business being in the HOF based on numbers but he was in the biggest game in the biggest media market.

Dillon was not a 1st round pick so he didn't come in with high expectations and lots of attention. He played on a team that gets little media attention, and he didn't win. He is not the face of any franchise. The first time he saw any real attention was when he came here and the Pats were already SB champions so he doesn't get much credit.

If he had the same numbers during that time on NE, or IND, or one of the other big teams of the 2,000s and I think he would get in.

if Terrell Davis who pretty much got 7000 yards and two SB wins in his first 4 seasons then had his career cut short by injury dose not make the HOF no way in hell dose Dillon get in.

the guy was a great back but he got a lot of att on a bad football team and only had one good year on a team that won the SB the year before only to have Laurence Maroney force him into retirement at the age of 32 because he became just a goal line back his last 2 years with the pats

Love Dillon and what he did in his first year for the Pats, but I doubt it. Since 2006, that part of the career rushing chart has become increasingly crowded.

Telling is the Pro Football Reference comparable RBs: Floyd Little, Jerome Bettis, Jim Taylor, Ken Willard, Leroy Kelly, Don Perkins, Chuck Muncie, Herschel Walker, Eddie George, John L. Williams. Great backs, but not many Hall of Famers.

Bettis (finalist) and TD (semifinalist) may give some hope, but TD more for a far more dominant stretch of running (carrying the Donkeys to titles twice) than Dillon and Bettis for overall longevity with more yards. Likeability plays in to the decision at some level, so I suspect Bettis has the edge there as Dillon was viewed by many as a malcontent.

I feel like he almost should but won't. Like i saw earlier when reading about it...he never really had his 2-3 years of pure dominance like most HF RBS. I mean he does have a SB but that won't be enough

Whatever happened to DryHeat?

No, he isn't going to the HOF in my opinion.

He absolutely should and the sad part is, all he needed was one average season to get there based on stats.

Of course, the Hall of Fame shouldn't be based just on an accumulation of stats and if you were to collect the most devastating, punishing runners of all time, he definitely would get in.

I liked you more then, me.
