Is Belichick proving his worth with each passing game?

Glad you find Mayo's press conferences so appealing. Robert - "Thunder" - clearly finds him equally charming. He'd make a great PR flack, no doubt, and we know he is delightful travel companion. Whether he'll make a competent HC remains to be seen.
It isn't so much that I find mayo's pressers appealing, it's that he isn't acting like a ****head to every person who asks a question. Plus, he used to be a player I rooted for and I'd like to see him do well.

People here overrate coaches in general and Belichick in particular. He has 8 losing seasons out of 11 without Brady and left this team in historically bad shape on offense. This team is so poor on offense that it looks like Bill did it on purpose.

All HCs need a good QB to win, especially now that the Manning Rules have taken over the games. It's gotten to the point now that most games get decided by who has the best QB and not the best HC. The last few years should have proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

And what a breath of fresh air to have a HC who has respect for the fans and media and answers questions like an adult.
.426 post Brady... people compare him to Jeff Fisher sans Brady but that's literally more like Todd Bowles level. The last two seasons in particular had this team feature some of the worst and most dysfunctional coaching in the league. That's shocking when BB is the HC.

Totally agree about the last part but Mayo to me still looks like the inexperienced rookie HC that he is. I'm hoping he gets better with more experience.

I wish him well also, and I certainly understand it would be unfair to judge him this early on, but the "he's such a nice guy" horseshit drives me up the wall. Who cares? So what? My real frustration is with the lousy, unprofessional (lack of) process the Krafts brought to rebuilding team management, both on the coaching staff and in the front office. I don't know how Mayo will pan out in the end, but the rebuild of overall team leadership, which is as important as rebuilding the roster, was lazy and slipshod.

I'd root for him if he did so,
I'd rather he wasn't successful. Not because I'd have anything against him (I don't) but because we all know the Boston media hot takes would be insufferable. Can't see it happening though... definitely 10 years ago but not at his age now.

I don't like the timing of this thread. I don't like the title of this thread. I'm not the biggest fan of the first post.

But I do miss Bill and think we'd be better off with him right now.

That said Mayo, AVP, and Wolf are off to rough start but I'm not quitting on them anytime soon and as bad as the record is and as bad as some of the schemes have looked ultimately the most important thing this year is Maye's development. So somewhat decent first start there.
So far, I am not enthused about the offensive play calling, offensive game management, and lack of help for newbie tackles.

Absolutely.

Allen has a Super Bowl trophy is Belichick was his coach.

13 Seconds never would have happened.
Would you take Matt Patricia as your offensive coordinator?

I love Belichick. So appreciative of what he did here for the franchise and fans. But in the end, even some of the most loyal were questioning some of what he was doing. No doubt he could still game plan a defense but it was becoming harder and harder to sift through what the media and all the headlines were saying, to what was real and what was fabricated. In the end it may of been best if Brady and BB had just both left at the same time as it divided/ blew a hole in this fanbase/forum thats gonna take years to repair. So much success between Brady and BB. Spoiled fanbase with 20-30+ year olds that knew nothing except winning.

He will benefit from a fresh start with another franchise like Buffalo etc, one that has a QB in place.

Forget the past, let’s talk about now…

12 penalties last week, nine yesterday… this team doesn’t look disciplined.

Somebody else should probably call offensive plays, AVP isn’t good. No tempo, no creating momentum or rhythm, he has no feel for the run game which is more important than the pass game. He rolls out these slow developing run plays at the worst possible times. The draw play yesterday was a horrible decision, pass rush is what the Texans do well. He’s just a guy calling plays, not a coordinator.

He's probably past it. As for the Boston press, they are pretty fond of the hot take. Who are the worst? Jones is bad, but Bertrand is worse. Felger? At least Felger and Jones build their takes on some substance. Bertrand is just a smirky *****.

No. An HC and a GM do not have the same responsibilities.
Ya I know. But it’s the same person doing both jobs… which would make it an oxymoron. Bite your nose to spite your face ..

Agree, there is no flow to the game

Haha… imagine that .. a bunch of fans, who obviously know all the intricacies of playing football, understanding contracts, knowing how to handle A type violent humans, setting up the foundation of success for almost 25 years, drafting, coaching, hiring the right people, getting rid of players a year before they were done, ect ect , would know LESS than the guy doing it… hahaha

Many of you turned on Belichick over the last couple of years. Stating that the game had passed him by, etc.

Over that same span, I personally felt that Belichick was doing some of his best coaching the last 3 seasons. Looking at the Patriots roster, seeing the lack of talent, and seeing him putting together 8 and 10 wins seemed like practical magic.

To win 10 games and 8 games in 2021 and 2022 was very impressive, in my opinion, with the lack of talent the roster had. I don’t think Mayo gets 4 wins with the current team.

Long story short: I’m curious on your thoughts now. Is your appreciation for Belichick, and what he got out of the roster the last 3 years, growing?
The Patriots finished 4-13 in 2023.

He’s a phenomenal coach, strategist and has that cold hearted approach to winning

But he built a lot of teams on the cheap, and was bailed out by having Brady

I worry it was more on the Krafts than Belichick to keep the spending in check, but we’ll see
