Is Belichick proving his worth with each passing game?

"The Dynasty" showed that Bob and Bill didn't have that great of a relationship and Bob was ready to fire Bill after the 2001 season had they missed the playoffs. That was a bad look on Bob.

After knowing this know, Bill should've parted ways with Bob after Brady left ala Phil Jackson and the Bulls.
He should've left for having Guerrero forced on him, which even Amendola (no love lost for Belichick) assessed was going to turn the locker room sour and undermine the coaches. How Kraft didn't realize this is an absolute mystery.

I think Bill's own nepotism for his kids convinced him to stay instead of doing what he should've done immediately.

Many of you turned on Belichick over the last couple of years. Stating that the game had passed him by, etc.

Over that same span, I personally felt that Belichick was doing some of his best coaching the last 3 seasons. Looking at the Patriots roster, seeing the lack of talent, and seeing him putting together 8 and 10 wins seemed like practical magic.

To win 10 games and 8 games in 2021 and 2022 was very impressive, in my opinion, with the lack of talent the roster had. I don’t think Mayo gets 4 wins with the current team.

Long story short: I’m curious on your thoughts now. Is your appreciation for Belichick, and what he got out of the roster the last 3 years, growing?
As I said many times: he is a great HC but sucks as a GM. Did the team overachieve by winning the number of games they did with such horrible talent? Sure - but it was his fault the talent was so horrible.

yes, he is being missed a lot by many , me included !
Hope Kraft is happy with his decision, we went from bottom 10 to absolutely below the lowest !!!! Kraft needs to relinquish control of this team to either his son or sell them. We are the laughing stock of the NFL, why does it feel like the early nineties again ?

If they were so horrible, then why did the new regime re-sign most of them and screwed up badly the positionn that they needed to bring in from the outside.

Are you tired of McDermott?

Wasting Josh Allens career choking against the good NFL teams while beating the rummy teams. All these teams ahead Chiefs, @ Rams, @ 49ers, @ Lions, Seahawks. Pulling a classic Bills choke job on some of the others teams like Tenn or Indy and no playoffs.

And his coaching also went south fast in the past couple of seasons.

I don't like the timing of this thread. I don't like the title of this thread. I'm not the biggest fan of the first post.

But I do miss Bill and think we'd be better off with him right now.

That said Mayo, AVP, and Wolf are off to rough start but I'm not quitting on them anytime soon and as bad as the record is and as bad as some of the schemes have looked ultimately the most important thing this year is Maye's development. So somewhat decent first start there.

I would hardly claim the "new regime re-signed most of them".... that aside, whether you look at Belichick's acquisitions or the "new regime's" acquisitions, this is clearly one of the least talented teams in the League.

Belichicks Awful personnel decisions - draft, free agency signings, and players he let go - are a huge reason the Pats are what they are today.

How much did the new regime improve things?

Seriously, Maye is a plus, Judon an offsetting minus. How does the rest of the ledger look?

Yes.

But right now the Patriots look like the 32nd team they were expected to be.
There are plenty here who thought we would be playing .500 ball. Plenty …

Isn’t that like … oxymoronic ?

No. Many coaches not named Belichick do very well in the NFL. Keep in mind the roster of this team is mostly what BB left us after full control for multiple years post Brady.

This isn't to say BB isn't a great coach, butthat right now for this team he isn't the answer. Just because Mayo isn't the answer doesn't mean Bill is. We will lose, draft high and hopefully Maye develops over the course of the year and we get some talent in here and hit the ground running on Maye's second year.

If I ask you to make a cake, but the only ingredients you have is 1 egg, 2 tons of moldy feces, and flour made from the rotten flaked-off skin of coachroaches… should I judge you by the taste of the cake?
Yes, if you picked the ingredients.

Bill needed a QB. He had competent QB play Mac's first year and we made the playoffs. I think that gave the Krafts a false sense that Mac was gonna be a franchise QB and tied Bill's job with Mac's success. Unfortunately, Mac's physical limitations and weak mental fortitude cost Bill his job.

Maye looks like he's gonna be good. At least he's got the physical tools and isn't afraid of his own shadow. It's too bad we got rid of Bill and hired a staff who look like they don't know what they are doing.
People here overrate coaches in general and Belichick in particular. He has 8 losing seasons out of 11 without Brady and left this team in historically bad shape on offense. This team is so poor on offense that it looks like Bill did it on purpose.

All HCs need a good QB to win, especially now that the Manning Rules have taken over the games. It's gotten to the point now that most games get decided by who has the best QB and not the best HC. The last few years should have proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

And what a breath of fresh air to have a HC who has respect for the fans and media and answers questions like an adult.

His performance as GM went from quirky-but-generally-effective to fireably incompetent. His inability to adapt in various respects and his inclinations to petty vindictiveness and to stick-with-your-buddies organizational incestuousness eroded his effectiveness as HC. He had to go. I doubt frankly that he has the capacity, given his age but mostly given his blinding narcissistic self-regard (a condition to which many young people are also prone), that he can manage to secure an HC job somewhere. but it would be fun to see. I'd root for him if he did so, but I probably wouldn't bet on his succeeding.

Bill started to **** up when he brought his kids into high vis positions, but Mac Jones was his ultimate downfall.I wonder if Mac was Bill'spick or it was forced

Even when he had the ingredients he threw them away to prove that he could cook a great meal without them. He failed miserably and the meal sucks. What exactly were people watching during Bill's final days here?

Glad you find Mayo's press conferences so appealing. Robert - "Thunder" - clearly finds him equally charming. He'd make a great PR flack, no doubt, and we know he is delightful travel companion. Whether he'll make a competent HC remains to be seen.
