Granted, this is looking ahead a bit, but the Pats are playing the Falcons in less than 2 weeks, so it's certainly relevant:

Sean Weatherspoon of Atlanta Falcons put on short-term IR - ESPN

I think it goes without saying, but I'd much prefer that the Pats--particularly in their weakened state--play a Falcons team that is missing Steven Jackson, Sean Witherspoon, and even Kroy Biermann, on top of Roddy White currently being a shell of his usual self.

Their offense and defense have both lost a whole lot of firepower over the last couple of weeks, to the point that I think this will be a far closer and more manageable game than most people on this forum are anticipating.

As long as they have enough firepower to squeak by the might Dolphins. ...

Dare I hope?

Week 3 NFL Schedule:

Falcons at Dolphins

Falcons obviously looking ahead and trying to get inside info...

Aaron Wilson ?@RavensInsider 5m
Falcons sign corner Marcus Burley and wide receiver Jeremy Ebert to the practice squad, cut Steven Terrell

(Hmm, last I heard Ebert had been promoted to Jax varsity; guess it didn't last).

Nope. They cut him a couple of days ago.

Per, Rotoworld:

Steven Jackson (thigh) has been officially ruled out for Week 3.

"It's short term," coach Mike Smith said of Jackson's absence. "Don't know if that's two or three weeks." It means Jackson will almost certainly miss Week 4, and may not be seen again until after Atlanta's Week 6 bye. It leaves the Falcons with just replacement-level talents Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling at running back. Rodgers should see by far the most touches, but Snelling should get looks near the goal-line. A poor runner between the tackles, Rodgers will be a dicey FLEX play in standard formats, and is best left quarantined to PPR leagues.

Their offense is still deadly without him but they'll be a lot easier for the Patriots to defend on SNF in Georgia if SJax is out. The biggest issues will probably be Jones and Gonzalez, if the Patriots can contain them, they'll have a good chance to win that ballgame.

PS: With all these injuries, the Dolphins are favored against the Falcons. I expect Atlanta to win that match-up straight-up as the underdog regardless. No way I could see them starting 1-3.

Injuries on the Falcons?! Fire our strength and conditioning coaches immediately!

I remember when in 2006 we were badly beat up and injured and we went to Atlanta and won and someone asked BB about falcon's injuries after vick missed the game. BB's response is still etched in my mind
"Don't talk to us about injuries".

OH, how the mighty have fallen

Maybe, maybe not. Experience tells me we won't know until Nov., especially since the Pats have one hand tied behind their collective back to an unusual degree. Thus, I like the idea that maybe they can catch a break while they gear up to show us whether they can leverage that break later on if/when they get it untied.

That was in 2005, Schaub's coming out party. We played the NFC North in 2006.

How hilarious would it be if we bumbled our way to 5-0 through sheer luck and opponent ineptitude?

If Jackson is out against the Patriots I wouldn't bother scheming against Snelling or Rodgers. Both are plodders. Nickle and dime all the way against their obvious passing threats.

The Falcons D is a susceptible unit. If the Patriots can get through this week without further injury and pick up the W, I'll feel pretty good about their prospects against Atlanta, especially if Gronk is back.

It would be even less hilarious if we made it to 19-0 that way.

Be careful what you wish for. UDFA Paul Worrilow, aka "The Worlock" in Atlanta will be filling in for Spoon and this kid is legit, he had a monster pre-season. Many down in Falcon country want Worrilow to start, he has impressed that much. If you haven't heard of him, you will soon enough now that he has his chance.

He'll probably do to the Patriots like Tompkins did to the Bills and Jets. UDFA doing well in the preseason? Let's retire his number!
