I don't want to overreact when the guy has a hamstring issue, but I wonder if Dobson will be the latest redshirt to come through New England. He obviously has talent, but also needs some development, particularly when it comes to strength.
In this offense, Amendola will be the #1 option, and Gronkowski will be the #2 when he gets back. After that (assuming the Pats operate out of a 3WR set), Thompkins could likely be the #3 and Edelman the #4. Sudfeld will certainly factor in as well, in addition to the RBs.
Over the final few weeks it seemed as though Josh Boyce had jumped Dobson on the depth chart, and this move could reflect it. Coming out of college, Boyce was actually considered the superior prospect (that many overlook) but fell because of his injury. Dobson was projected as a 3rd-4th rounded because of his raw nature.
Anyway, if the other receivers stay mostly healthy, Dobson and Boyce weren't going to get much playing time to begin with. They would be sprinkled into the offense.
