To me, Bill Belichick is and remains one of the most brilliant coaches in NFL history.

However, there's been a sudden emergence of people on this board who actually want there to be a "change" and that change to be....him.

An absolutely absurd request in my opinion. So, in this this thread I'm simply asking who you feel the best coach in the NFL is. I hope the overwhelming majority of votes go where they rightfully deserve but am quite interested to see the reasoning behind anyone feeling otherwise.

I haven't noticed that.

In the almost 40 years I've been watching football, there have been only 2 coaches who I've felt deserved the "genius" label: Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick.

There's no doubt in my mind that BB is the best coach in football. That doesn't mean that he's beyond reproach or question, however. The Pats' team starts and ends with BB. He's been the ultimate source of our success (and no, I'm not discounting the terrific ownership under the Krafts) and deserves the credit. And now that the team is underperforming, he should be accountable as well.

I would say that the current Pats team appears to suffer from a relative inbalance of experienced people who can act as counterweights to BB. Scott Pioli, Charlie Weis, Romeo Crennel, and even Josh McDaniels exerted a lot of influence. This year there doesn't seem to be anyone to act as a counterweight. I don't know whether that's a major or factor.

I don't want anyone else running the Pats. But I do hope that BB addresses the problems with a vengeance, including any that stem from himself.

I thought this might have been a serious poll until I saw Childress on the list. Then, I realized it was just humor.

At least "Mangenius" wasn't listed.

I would say he is the best, but even if he is not, he is very close.

BTW I always enjoy reading this... NFL Coach Ratings - ESPN

Dunno where the logic is, but at least it is good for a little chuckle.

I voted for Bill ... Sean Peyton is a very excellent coach though.

I think Bill is the best coach ever but I think he's having an off year.

Just to clarify: yes, my vote was a joke. mayoclinic summed up my real opinion perfectly.

Where's Tom Cable? I always appreciate a coach that both encourages his players to hit people in the mouth and leads by example. :singing:

Hard to make a case that Sean Peyton is not as good as Belichick at this point. That being said, Peyton probably has MUCH better pieces (coaching-wise) around him this year than BB. I said at the time that the en masse coaching/FO defections in the off-season were going to cause real problems with this team.

Belichick is just having to do way too much. Losing Pioli, McDaniels, Capers, and 3 of the greatest defensive leaders in Pats history all in a single year is too much for anyone to overcome.

The Saints' defense was legitimately terrible until Gregg Williams came along. Payton is too one-dimensional to be considered Belichick's equal.
