....any of our players or coaching staff talking about the Super Bowl

The Jags deserve the utmost respect with a defense that rivals defenses of any in the past 10 years at least and will be a force.

As far as Bortles is concerned,he's not an elite quarterback but just needs to do what other mediocre QBs like Dilfer have done in the past...just play manager of the offense and let the defense do its job - you have to respect him as well.

This upcoming game won't be easy but its going to be a dogfight and one hell of a game...GO PATS!!!

Bortles got lambasted by the Media all year long, but the guy keeps chugging along and proving doubters wrong. Sure he may not be a polished QB, but he makes enough plays to keep his team in it. He had some decent runs today.

I hope the Jags aren't underestimated here on Patsfans. I prefer facing them to the Steelers, but they're a very good football team that absolutely can beat the Pats. Bortles isn't a good QB, but guys like him have given us a lot of trouble at times in the past, and their defense is a rough matchup for us.

Good quarterbacks who lack fundamental skills of all the Elite quarterbacks thrive on their defense playing well and then they can just go and manage the offense enough to move the chains and score some points here and there knowing their defense won't usually give up boatloads of points to put pressure on the QB to score in bunches....thats what a game manager does and Bortles has done it well this season.

Unfortunately, we have a dumb ass thread of our fans doing the exact opposite of that, and people trying to justify it as it being a “player thing”.

Respect your opponent.

This game is single elimination and any team can win any given Sunday. Jags are legit and JUST dropped 45 in a playoff game on the road.

Respect. Your. Opponent.

That goes for fans too.

....

A defense that just gave up 42 points ? I respect the Jags team, and they have some awesome defensive players, but let’s not anoint them as the 85 Bears or the 99 Ravens just yet. What I really respect, is that as a TEAM, they seem to be able to beat you in several ways. 10-3 in a defensive struggle or 45-42 in a shootout. Coughlin always seems to have Brady/Belichick’s number. That is worrisome as well.

You are right though, no Patriot will mention the word Super Bowl, they never utter the words Super Bowl until they are in it.

One thing you wont hear: Steelers players talking about playing in the AFCCG

I thought this would be the punchline of the OP. Lol. Simply, the Steelers would have been just fine!

Bortles really does have some wheels. He averages 6.3 yards per carry in his career. That compares favorably to Wilson (5.7) and Newton (5.1). Now, obviously, they run a lot more than Bortles -- I don't think Bortles would maintain that average if he ran as much as those two -- but he is still pretty nimble.

He has played decent in the playoffs.

A ridiculous post

No. It doesn't go for us. My arrogance has zero outcome on the game. I can talk smack all I want.

****heads like Mike Mitchell who don't take their opponent seriously do.

Get over yourself

I would not underestimate the jaguars but on the other hand they did give up 545 and 42.....

could they beat the Pats, sure they could...I dont think they will.

Though, Pitt is the only playoff team Jax beat.

meh...a player SHOULD be thinking he will win...now, giving the piranhic media a quote like this is another matter. The sports media needs a napalmolive bath rinsed in sulphuric acid.

By the end of the week Belichick will have the Pats convinced that the Jags are the 85 Bears.

And rightly so. To win you need to understand what your opponent does well and try to take that away. To do that you have to watch a lot of film of them doing it well.

I think that the respect Belichick has always shown over the years for the team they are facing each week has been key to their success. Never look past the game right in front of you.

Good advice for football and life in general.

Last three years for the Jaguars 3 -13, 5 -11 and 3-13.. Coughlin steps in and a great transformation.

Never take a hungry team lightly, they have my respect.. I also have confidence in BB to put forth a gameplan and the players to be prepared for them..
