If we open in a 3-4, who starts?

When did I single him out as the blame for that game?
I 'singled him out' as a guy who isn't likely to be on the field vs a running team based on the fact that he has rarely played in base defense because of his run deficiencies.
You tried to say he played well vs the run, 'singling him out'.
I looked at whether he actually did a good job defending the run in that game, and the answer was clear to me.

And the Broncos ran left, right and middle.
I'm interested to see the quote where I wrote Anderson played well against the run in the Broncos game.

Technically you did not. However you jumped in to my response to someone saying he played 'terrifically' with a positive comment about the way he played.

I said:
Not in the game I watched. Anderson did a great job rushing Tebow, and made one good play in the run game to cause the fumble but otherwise when he had to be out there he was thorooughly manhandled.

and you responded by disputing he was manhandled.

If you were not saying he played well vs the run, please explain what you were trying to communicate.

So basically you're bulldusting again? Good to know.

It's pretty simple and something a dullard could understand - Anderson isn't brilliant against the run, the entire Patriots defense was poor against the Broncos run game, singling out Mark Anderson is not fair given the aforementioned comment.

Here we go again. Can't have a discussion without insulting people, can you?

I just responded to your question. I was under the impression that if I type a post saying Anderson was manhandled vs the run, and you write back that you don't think he was manhandled you are supporting his play.
As I said, if I misunderstood you, please feel free to clarify.

If all you are saying is he is bad against the run, but everyone was that day, why did you jump in and dispute that he played poorly?
You are not making any sense.

Lets try this.
The point was that I don't see why the Patriots would convert to a 34 for this game in order to get Anderson on the field to defend the run. Do you disagree with that?
That is where you came in while i was disagreeing with people who said he 'set the edge' well in that game, and played terrifically.

Don't misrepresent my posting then there will be NO issue. Do not blame me for your comprehension issues.

1. Anderson didn't play poorly against the Broncos. He made several impact plays, one notable play against the Broncos for a strip sack fumble recovery.

2. The entire team was poor against the Broncos rush. I haven't debated this with you. Manhandled intimates that you're being thrown around like a rag doll and have no ability to make any impact on the day.

3. The Patriots will play 43 and 34 fronts so it doesn't really matter what I think about who is going to be where given it'll be situation football, as always.

(lets not argue about the flow of the argument guys. this is an interesting thread by the way!)

for what its worth, i thought Anderson was our best pass rusher. and that is his main role, and that in run defense, you would rather have someone like ellis on the field there (in a 4-3).

if its a 3-4, its a very good question about who plays the OLB, wiht niko on one side.

i suppose anderson could be on the other side? who else has been playing there? (fletcher, mayo, spikes, white, guyton - have all been ILB)

Anderson's weak against the run and not used to being a 3-4 OLB. If you put him out there, the Broncos should be able to chew up yardage and the clock by running at him time and again.

I believe you, he sucks against the run. Who else can play OLB in a 3-4?
He is the best of the lot, and continues the long run of poor run stopping OLBs that have played significant snaps (TBC, Colvin, etc.)

I hear what you're saying, and it's one of the reasons that this is such a lousy defense that relies on coaching to an amazing extent. The good news is that, with the Steelers out of the playoffs, there isn't an offense left in the AFC that can really be considered the type to consistently light teams up, so the defensive liability should be able to be limited all the way up to the Super Bowl. If TFB can just be TFB, the Patriots should make it all the way through the AFC.

This offseason is going to be very interesting to watch in terms of defensive moves, especially if BB decides to bring back the 3-4. I think it's safe to say that both free agency and the draft are likely to be defense heavy this year.

When did I do either?

1. Anderson didn't play poorly against the Broncos. He made several impact plays, one notable play against the Broncos for a strip sack fumble recovery.
I noted his passrushing and the fumble play. I was discussing his run defending which was awful.

2. The entire team was poor against the Broncos rush. I haven't debated this with you. Manhandled intimates that you're being thrown around like a rag doll and have no ability to make any impact on the day.
He was manhandled on running plays. When I said that I qualified it with his good passrushing. I did not imply at all that he had no ability to make a play, in fact, I credited him for the ones he did. Nevertheless when they ran at him he was engulfed by his blocker.

3. The Patriots will play 43 and 34 fronts so it doesn't really matter what I think about who is going to be where given it'll be situation football, as always.
If what you think doesn't really matter, then why did you inject yourself into the discussion?
