If Jackson does not come on in [merged]

I love Kelley Washington, don't get me wrong, and I'd like to see him get a chance at some real opportunities in the regular season, but he doesn't need the practice like Jackson does.

I want to see Jackson continue to get significant time in the next few games. Let him fail on the field, not on the bulletin board. One game was not enough.

we have a winner

EDIT: and why are you so angry about being called a meathead? That's probably the worst insult I've ever seen. If I were you, I'd sit back and laugh at it and tell him to take that insult back to the 1950's where it belongs.

At least he didn't tell him to "sit on it".

good one meathead.:singing:

Oh yeah? Well up your nose with a rubber hose.

I mean Jackson is a bust.

I mean Jackson is a beast.

I wonder why someone with Jackson's size and speed was sent on so many 2 yard pass patterns. Looked like Welker's routes.

Also (stupid question) why do so many "fans" wish for players we drafted to be busts?

I root for the Colt's to have busts. When we have a player with lots of talent, I want them to succeed, if possible.

I don't think that anyone has wished for Mayo and Crable to be busts.

I think the issue is patience. Jackson has had two full years to learn the playbook. Also, he either has separation skills or he doesn't. If he is improving in practice, he is not very expensive for a a potential contributer late in the season, in the playoffs and in 2009.

However, it does not seem to be happening. Why isn't Jackson returning kicks? Why isn't he running intermediate and long routes?

I don't know about routes, but he seemed able to to get separation with Brady throwing to him in year one. 3 TDs I believe.

And plenty of fans root for busts, but it requires some injury or other problem.

Why are you using observations from CJack playing in actual NFL regular season games to evaluate how CJack might perform in actual NFL regular season games? Just because he has done something before doesn't mean he is capable of doing it. Please keep your pesky "logic" and "insight" to yourself. You are spoiling the mood.

It is not a matter of wishing a player to be a bust, but simply not wanting to waste a roster spot. Love for a player is highly condintional, and that condition is production.

Wasn't he returning kicks earlier in camp?

Well if he is having difficulty getting the short routes right, maybe he is not being trusted to try some of the longer ones. Or perhaps they have seen him not run them right in practice. I'm gonna trust the coaches are trying thier best to help him succede.

Chad, Chad, Chad.

7-on-7
The offense is working on some 7-on-7 right now. One play just stood out. Chad Jackson wide left lined up against Ellis Hobbs. Tom Brady looks that way for the Go. Jackson ran by Hobbs and got a step. Good throw from Brady but the ball goes off/throw Jackson’s hands. No burst to haul it in. Incomplete. The struggles continue for the former second-round pick.

Brady bounces back a couple plays later with a nice out pattern to Watson on the right side, beating Guyton.

Cassel in. Dump off short left for Maroney. FYI the formation inlcuded Jackson wide right, C.J. Jones wide left. That grouping says something.

Cassel in. Finds Welker sprinting down the slot. Hits him in stride beating Shoate.

O’Connell in. LOoks for Jackson. Shoate in coverage breaks it up in the short left.

Cassel back. Maroney in right flat.

Cassel short left to Matthew Slater.

Position note. With Harrison and Spann out, Mark Dillard is taking nickel and dime reps with Sanders, Meriweather, Bryant and Hobbs in the secondary. Wheatley then came in for Bryant with the rest of the group remaining. After another rep, Bryant came in for Hobbs. There seems to be a three-man rotation developing with the first group at the top corner spot with Hobbs, Bryant and Wheatley.

Punt return changes
August 12, 2008
As we get closer to real football, the guys getting reps at punt returner are the vets. Wasn’t long ago that Chad Jackson was getting the first reps followed by C.J. Jones. Now it’s Wes Welker and Kevin Faulk. Jones, most fans probably remember really struggled returning punts in the preseason opener against the Ravens. He caught one punt inside the 5-yard line. He fumbled another. Guess Belichick and Brad Seely decided it was time to get serious.

And by the way, Jackson is taking reps at scout team gunner. He just got “coached up” a bit for his effort in that role.

I said in a thread a while back that Chad Jackson could be EARLY Cut! I am sure that thought raised some eye brows. I am sure it doesn't seen so far fetched now. This Team is not depending on Chad Jackson in 2008 and BB will not give him a roster spot by default. He better get his head out of his @ss or its see you later Jackson...measurables only get you drafted so high...it doesn't make you a football player. Here's hoping he turns it around but i am not holding my breath.:banned:

Just so you know, there is a major difference between not being able to beat out a 6 year veteran (Gaffney) for the #3 WR spot and being an early cut. At this point, he doesn't appear to have earned that #3 spot, but that is MUCH different from being an early cut.

Perhaps Jackson wants to be cut ... I find it hard to believe he is this bad. Perhaps he knows at best he is the #4 on the Patriots and if he gets cut he could well be the #3 or even a #2 on another team.

If he's the #4 here he won't get anything good in a new contract ... if he can be a #2 or #3 on another team he will receive a much better contract for the next few years.

Just to comment on the Andy Hary bits that you bolded:

FYI the formation inlcuded Jackson wide right, C.J. Jones wide left. That grouping says something.

What does it say? Does it say Welker has taken his spot with the 1st group? Does it say Maroney has been demoted?

Yes, and the previous un-bolded line held this perhaps pertinent bit of analysis: "As we get closer to real football, the guys getting reps at punt returner are the vets".

And by the way, Jackson is taking reps at scout team gunner. He just got “coached up” a bit for his effort in that role.

Was he really being coached up on "effort", or was it perhaps technique or something far less sinister? Doesn't the fact that Chad is being coached up on other ST roles "say something"?

i wish there was something that i could do to help combat Chad Jackson's suckiness

i would like to help reverse the crappyness. Reverse the crappynes. Everyone say it with me.

Sorry.....

Any reason to use the term "burst" to explain a guy getting open and not catching the pass?

I fully expect a RB or WR to blow up on the field someday.

"Wow, great burst!"
