If the Pats lose to the Dolphins, they'd still get the No. 1 seed if tonight's DEN/CIN winner also loses next week. DEN vs. SD. CIN vs. BAL
If we lose to the Dolphins next week, we don't deserve the number seed
....I'm afraid that your proposed rule might almost completely eliminate the Game Day Threads if posters need to form out their logic with pen and paper before each post.
to me its not so much about #1
its more about putting the team together again
compose them into one being, one rhythm
only games played together 100% can give you that
its not just getting the injured back - we need a team back
(or else some would need name tags come 1st PO game)
This team NEEDS the #1 Seed. We have not been a great road team all year. Communication is so much harder (esp in the playoffs) on the road. In a situation with a banged up OLine, I want the boys to be able to hear TB12 yell out signals and "alerts" in a quiet home field...not waste timeouts on key 3rd downs because he doesn't like the look he sees and can't get the guys where they need to be in a raucous away stadium.
Never in recent Patriot history have I seen as many illegal procedure-type penalties as this years team...highly likely due to the neophytes we have playing in unfamiliar situations.
Because a scenario could play out that the #6 seed is Den,KC,NYJ or Pittsburgh coming to Foxboro of that team beats the #3 seed AND Houston beats the #5 seed.
First off, why would you assume that Dalton won't be able to play 3 weeks from now in the divisional round, or a month from now on the AFCCG? Hasn't he already had 2-3 weeks to heal already? That must've been one hell of a broken thumb that didn't even require surgery.
Second of all, you never give up the right to have HFA and host both games. It's an opportunity they've worked hard for. They aren't just going to flush it down the toilet.
As far as whether or not McCarron could be a game managing QB that makes a few throws and lets his running game/defense take over, we'll know more after tonight's game.
No one every thought a team led by Mark Sanchez could defeat the 14-2 Pats in Foxborough in the playoffs and look what happened in 2010.
One thing is for certain. In the Playoffs everyone starts at 0-0 and every team becomes a different animal. #1 seed doesn't guarantee anything but atleast it's the best path to the Super Bowl.
That was a dark moment for this franchise. A buddy of mine who occasionally goes to games with me lives in upstate New York. He had booked a hotel room near Gillette to stay over after that game. He was so upset he drove straight home afterward, a four-hour trip.
