I suspect that 12 positions are truly up for grabs.

Was gonna say that I’d be shocked if they cut Prunty with being a 5th rounder. But they did cut Swinson last year, so who knows

Why would anyone be shocked that a 5th rounder got cut from any NFL roster?

Didnt you already start a roster thread? Why do you need 2 threads discussing the exact same thing? I should just go ahead and ignore you at this point.

I agree that at the moment all four of the special teamers are 'very likely', but at some point another punter will be signed to compete with Baringer. His net (40.6) only ranked 20th last year, and opponents had the 10th highest return yard average (12.0). Not sure if that is on the punter or coverage, but either way, genuine competition is warranted.

please do.

It is a long time until camp and then until the final cut.. We won't have all the discussions of to one thread.

I opened this thread to focus on the where the roster rights will be, in the bottom 12. Personally, I haven't been as happy with the top 41 in many years. Add Brown, and few others than this partial roster will get many reps.

The difference between this thread and the other one is that there I picked my WAG's at the final 53. Here I identify the most likely 41 (42 if Brown is included).

As an aside, I expect Prunty to make the roster although I really don't think that he should.

From a financial standpoint, the signing bonus is more than the rookie salary through pick 4.32. [Swinson's was $441K vs a rookie salary of $840K.]

Historically speaking for the Patriots since 2000, no pick higher than that was released out of training camp as a rookie, and only one (LeKevin Smith, in the sui generis year of 2007) didn't make it to their second offseason.

I thought one of the UDFAs was a punter.

That they only bothered to look in udfa should tell you their level of concern. I think Baringer sucking in 2025 is an urban myth version of patsfans lore. …..
I Haven’t done the research, but I suspect that when A. your offense sucks (2024) you get stranded in own half a lot and have lots of green space to punt to; your numbers look better. & B when you have a 50% offense (2025); you get to midfield and still have to punt, but have to do directional or try for coffin corners and that eats into your yardage.

HINT: If you are wondering if bad return stats is on him or the other other 10 plus coaches - - - > Check avg hang time. If he is at or above 50%, it wasn’t his fault. Again, I haven’t researched this either.

Since is offseason maybe I’ll find time to check these things sometime, but for now I’m going with my gut feeling that:
A. Baringer DOES NOT SUCK & coaches agree; B We will see some minimal level of competition (as much so they can test more return guys simultaneously as challenge B for a job); C he will never be seriously challenged; D. he WILL KEEP HIS JOB ; and E the WAILING & LAMENTING of the the women of the usual suspects on the board will drag into mid-September.

Farmer is more of a lock than any 3rd DT imo. I wouldn't say he is in danger unless he simply hasn't improved at all.

For the other foster spots it is very possible we aren't done adding a depth safety and run stopping specialist like DJ Reader wouldn't be out of line.

Baringer had a case for team MVP the first half of the year. He definitely struggled in December and January. But I don't think that's nearly enough to cut him. Just more GDT ******** and short memories.
