Specifically remember Brady dissecting Their defense to the tune of 14 straight completions and he landed awkwardly on his shoulder sometime during the 3rd quarter and he was not quite the same (Giants started getting a little more pressure too

that deep throw to gronk that was intercepted drove me crazy. chase blackburn of all people catches it.
such a stupid decision by tb12

then the " welker drop " ****, such a painful loss.

It wasn't our day.

Which raises the question, how important are intangibles, beyond X's and O's?

BB's approach occasionally acknowledges it, but mostly it's "focus on the details, block everything else out"

I would NOT change Bill, always liked him. But those subjective things can be inspirational, as opposed to a distraction.

I scoffed (okay, puked) at the "Ray Lewis' retirement" and "Peyton's last rodeo" sewage, but it did inspire their teams.

And old friend Red would play that stuff all the time...it wasn't just to break up the monotony, it helped focus.

But again, I want Bill to be Bill. Things have worked out well for us.

it probably just appears that way in hindsight. nobody remembers the countless times someone gives an inspirational speech, but the team still loses.

and it's not like the patriots never have anyone inspirational. junior seau inspired a lot of patriots players, but that wasn't enough in super bowl XLII. and tom brady's speech before super bowl XLIX was as inpirational as it gets:

It's about honor. It's about respect. We win this game, you're honored, your kids are honored, your families are honored.

I've uploaded the 2006 Divisional playoff game in San Diego on Youtube. Haven't listed it so hopefully it won't be removed and thus I also won't post the link directly in here. If anybody wants the link, just send me a message.

Did you ever see the video of the final pre-game meeting before Super Bowl 39? Belichick was reading the Philly paper to the team which discussed the planned Eagles parade route, and pointing out the best spots that they watch the Eagles celebrating as long as they could wake up that early.

Belichick tells them to block everything else out in their preparations. But when the time in right, I think he unleashes little nuggets like this all the time for inspiration.

I heard bill overworked them during the week of SB42, which explains why he cancelled the last practice of SB49 and made it a walk-through. The team looked much more relaxed last time around.

He absolutely did but there was a reason. Mike Vrabel and Rodney are on record as saying he did. I'll try and find the quotes. I think Heath Evans said the same thing.

I think it was the Thursday practice in which they were just awful on every level. Brady was messing up. Bruschi, etc.

There are two schools of thought. 1) ease up and get the team in a tranquil state 2) drive them harder and have them focus and practice the smallest of details so they totally dialed into what they do. Its a military philosophy used after a bad loss. One that Robert E Lee used after Gettysburg. In other words, don't give the troops time to think about the loss, just keep fighting and marching.

In fairness to Bill, they both said when they went to bed Saturday night the team felt good. Then on that Sunday morning all hell broke loose with Spector, Tomase etc.

I forgot about that fat slob Tomase and what he did.

Tomase needs to leave the country.
I don't know why the New York Post didn't immediately hire him after that.

Because he still had a job here?

If I had Doc Brown's DeLorean, would be interesting to see Dolphins poop their pants vs. Redskins if Miami paper published some equally insane and preposterous report about a previous victory that was taken seriously and blown up nationally.

They, too, were playing to vindicate their coach, in that he was labeled as being "unable to win the big one."

As it happened of course, Miami got some help that day, including from the goal post, which blocked an open TD to Larry Brown.

I'd rather slam my junk with a ball peen hammer and soak the wounds in lime juice than watch either of the SB losses to the Giants.

What could of been...

Pretty sure the expression on my face after both was not something anybody would want to see. Especially considering how I've despised the Giants all my life.

But although they didn't do us any favors either game, at least the officials didn't determine the outcome of the games, and titles, as they did on December 18, 1976.

Don't know if it's been mentioned here, but one play in SB46 still gnaws in my soul:

Pats ball, early in 2nd quarter, 3rd/5 from the Vagiants 12; trips left (Welker, Branch, Edelman) with
The Prisoner & Gronk on the right; Branch & The Receiver run downfield, all the coverage follows them, and Edelman is left all alone; the pass, however, goes to The Prisoner but is swatted away by JPP before it ever reaches him; not that it would matter, because the defense had the numbers advantage on that side of the field.

What a terrible waste of 4 points. Edelman had the first down easily, and might have been able to scoot
his way into the EZ as well. Of course, nothing could top the first-quarter fumble recovery that wasn't,
because of Too Many Men on the Field.
