@Jeffphowe Been watching a ton of Chiefs film: Julian Edelman is gonna roast Marcus Peters.

Interesting. Maybe Peters is better vs. big physical freak WRs but struggles vs. route runners. Anyone know?

Peters is a very good CB but against the more typical outside WR. He is not really suited to match up vs a guy like Edelman but they don't really have that player. Not many teams do.

It'not all about the numbers Edelman is a Super players who's presence alone is a breath of fresh air for this Offense. Edelman could catch 4 or 5 passes and we still win, he occupying our opponents #1 CB open things up for our others guys. If LaFell stinks it up this week with Edelman back you have to think he will be shown his walking papers.

Edelman's stats inside and outside the numbers.

Edelman outside the numbers: 29 catches, 293 yards, 4 TDs. Edelman over the middle: 32-399-3 TD's.

The numbers say he's a beast in the slot they also say he's much better than regarded on the outsides. When you can get open as quickly as Edelman an ability few players possess you can line-up anywhere!

He has lined up as a slot guy. And outside guy. He takes handoffs lunch at sweeps out of the backfield. He's thrown like a quarterback. He's even play defense of back. My man Julian Edelman can lineup anywhere he wants.

I watched a good amount of Peters in college and this season, and he reminds me a ton of Aqib Talib. Pre-draft I was rooting hard for his character concerns to drop him to #32 so the Pats could take him. Which is to say that he's not Brandon Browner or anything, but his worst matchup is against agile WRs with explosion off the LOS that can't be pressed at the LOS (aka Edelman exactly).

I'm not quite Howe-level optimistic, either with this specific matchup or in general, but given how good KC's secondary is across the board, Peters-on-Edelman seems like it's clearly our best matchup, assuming of course that Edelman's anywhere near 100%. Peters is a ballhawk, though, so I'll be worried a bit every time the ball goes his way.

Any time I think of a CB trying to cover Edelman I think of the Super Bowl when Edelman juked Tharold Simon out of his shoes.

I advocated hard for the Pats to take Peters in the draft forum if he was around with their pick and love his game but as I said in the Pat's O vs KC D thread he's not going to go to the slot and cover either JE or AD.

I think the weather will play a factor in this assessment .

That's even better. Let Peters get "lost" in the game plan while covering decoys like LaFell or Martin...or Amendola. If we take one of their best cover guys out of the equation of defending our best receiver...I'm all for it!

Well, rain makes the ball slick which helps the CB. Rain makes the ground slick which helps the WR as he knows where he is going before the CB.

I don't think Smith our Peters are suited to handling the Patriots quick receivers, they will have LaFell under control but that's it. I think they go over 30 this Week.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they stuck either Smith or Peters on Gronk ala Byron Jones in the Cowboys game. Jones did the best job of anyone at keeping Gronk in check (without committing defensive holding and pass interference every play) and Peters has a similar build and skill set.
