How many potential dynasties have the Patriots ruined?

Realistically... 4

Rams were on their way to 2 of 3 and if they get it maybe more come. Same for Seattle. A Sneaky pick though is the Colts. They only won 1 but we blocked their path so often. Also We did the same to the Steelers who got 2 and may have gotten 3 if not for the Pats.

sleeper pick...San Diego of the mid 00's

got so much in their heads with beating them in back 2 back years in the playoffs.

but that team was a wagon and really should've won at least 1 ring

Tomlinson
Gates
Rivers
Turner
Neal
Vincent Jackson
Keenan McCardell

the defense was no slouch with Jammer, Cromartie, Edwards, Merriman, Florence, Jamal Williams, Castillo.

looking them up now, forgot how incredible Tomlinson's 06 season was

1815 yds, 28 td on the ground
53 rec, 508 yds, 3 td in the air

2300 total yds and 31 td

you can count our own between 06 thru 11..

focused too much on offense and not defense.
Defense wasn't really why we lost SB 42. Defense was weak but didn't allow very many points in SB 46.

We were unlucky more than anything. Had golden opportunities to win 3 Super Bowls during that stretch. The 06 defense was good but folded in the AFCCG.

OL injuries in or in time leading up to both was primary cause IMO. Gronk injuries and relying on Moss too much/dropped Passes were contributing factors.

The Rats for sure.

Implied in all of their bluster is if the Pats hadn't cheated, the Rats would have had the dynasty.

St. Louis - Yes
Seattle - Yes

Pittsburgh is arguable. First, they may not have won a title in 2005 had they won in 2004, considering how bad they've been with SB hangovers. I don't think the 2001 team could have possibly beaten the Rams with Kordell Stewart at QB. Last year's Steelers squad was hardly a dominant team. They've made it to three SBs without having to play us in any season. Maybe they would have won a third, maybe not. Is three Super Bowls in 15 years a dynasty anyway? I don't know. They are a good team, but their winning percentage and overall level of play has not been on a dynasty level...just a very good level.

It didn't matter who Peyton Manning played in the playoffs. It might as well been a bottom feeder. The last time the Pats knocked him out was 2004. He could dig his own grave with or without Brady/Belichick.

The Ravens got lucky with Flacco playing way above his talent level one year; he is not a championship caliber quarterback who could lead a team to a dynasty.

San Diego? We may have ruined their SB chances in two seasons, but I'd hardly consider them a dynasty contender, considering they never even reached a Super Bowl.

I agree with everything you said here. St. Louis and Seattle are the definites. Pittsburgh is a maybe. Everyone else....no.

St. Louis had two of the best players in football in Warner and Faulk, on the verge of winning 2 of 3, and were loaded with talent.

Seattle had the best defense in the NFL - one of the very best in football history - and an up and coming young stud at QB on a cheap contract (kind of like Brady after 2001), on the verge of winning two straight SBs.

Whoa! No team in the NFL won as many games as the Patriots during the 2006 - 2011 period. They tied or won the division in all six seasons. Defense had nothing to do with 2008 when Brady went down. The Patriots went to two Super Bowls against excellent Giants defenses and didn't lose because of its own defense in either game. In both Super Bowls the Patriots had the lead in the 4th quarter.

The Patriots won played in the AFC Championship game in 2006, 2007 and 2011. In two of those years they went to the Super Bowl and were not exactly blown out in any of those games. The only year they missed the playoffs was the year that Brady blew out his knee.

The Patriots record with elimination in parentheses:
12-4 in 2006 (AFCC classic against Manning and the Colts)
16-0 in 2007 (Super Bowl)
11-5 in 2008 (Missed Playoffs - tied with Dolphins for AFC East Title)
10-6 in 2009 (Wild Card loss to Ravens)
14-2 in 2010 (Divisional Round loss to Jets)
13-3 in 2011 (Super Bowl)

Each season was different. The secondary was problematic in a couple of those years but not the entire defense, and certainly not in 2006 -2008.

Great idea for a thread - definitely have to go with the Colts having been the most ruined by the Patriots. They woulda coulda shoulda racked up some more Lombardis in the 2000's.

i disagree. defense couldnt get off the field in 2007 super bowl. if i remember correctly, our offense didnt get on the field until some point after the midway point of first quarter

your opinion...good points. i disagree. we lost becuase we had a bend dont break defense that, in many cases could not get off the field. it limited our offensive opportunities. thats my opinion
