How has Ben Watson looked this camp?

49 is less than 50. Sorry dude, what I said was factual.

If you want me to rephrase I'll take a shot.

"Watson had about 50 catches the year before and the 3 wide receivers were the worst three ever to be fielded by a SB contender so its pretty unimaginable that a receiving tight end (with Graham taking primary blocking assignments) couldn't make more of an impact."

the "year before" was referenced because it was before Welker and Moss and Stallworth were signed. Your original post made it sound like since these 3 dudes are so crazy good, of course there isn't enough pig skin to go around..and I was just saying that before these guys came, its not like Watson was tearing it up while Bug Eyes and Troy were running routes out there.

Nonsense. I asked you a simple question that you have yet to answer. The year before was completely irrelevant, but you tossed it in anyway. Gonzalez in Kansas City has had fewer than 75 catches in 4 of the last 7 seasons (all but one being full 16 game seasons), despite being that team's #1 pass receiving target, and he's been considered the best receiving tight end along with Gates. Gates, as a #1 receiving target, has had 75 and 71 catches in the past two (complete) seasons.

Your receiving expectations for tight ends are simply unreasonable. Last season, for example, only 5 tight ends in the entire league caught more than 50, and the year before, where you intimated Watson was a disappointment, Watson was 6th in the NFL for TE receptions despite missing 3 games as, once again, only 5 tight ends had 50 catches or more.

The year before was 6
The year before was 3
The year before was 3
The year before was 4
The year before was 5
The year before was 4

So, going all the way back to the 2000 season, only 35 times has a tight end caught 50+, for an average of fewer than 5 per season.

And, while 49 might be less than 50, 13 is also less than 16. It was a disingenuous point you were making and you know it. Feel free to use misleading if you prefer.

Your one of the most respected posters on this board and I understand your points. This entire argument was essentially predicated on the fact that I don't think Ben Watson was worthy of the 1st round pick and when he is shown the door, I will always remember him for the Champ Bailey play. Irregardless on the future of Ben Watson, I'd be happy if he has zero catches this season and blocks every down next to Kazcur. Obviously this offense is not centered around Watson, and that is for the better - its just probably not what BB envisioned going first round TEs back to back years.
