One thing's for sure-the 2007 team will always be one of the most talked about-ever. I disagree with those who say there was nothing special about them. Consider the circumstances under which they began the season. The entire franchise's integrity had come under attack, their coach was being called a cheat, previous SB's tainted, and all because of their former coach Eric Mangini. Then add HGH,the tragic death of Marquis Hill... ARE you kidding me. That whole scenario had to be one of the WORST clouds EVER to hang over a team, a coach, and an owner. This is a proud team-all that hit them where it really, really hurt.
So opening night freakin Norv Turner practically hires armed guards to make sure no spies entered his locker room.
Can you imagine dealing with that? They did, though. In fact they took the field that night and kicked Norv and his Chargers' ass all over the field. That game was a thing of beauty in every way imaginable.
They went on to kick some more all season long, despite being accused of running up the score and god knows what else. They not only kicked it, but they did it under extreme duress. And that duress never let up,not once.
They were booed at away games, Rodney suspended, Big Vince fined a hundred times, they had to dot ever I and cross every T when it came to rules...and they continued to win.
I know what we fans went through emotionally, so just imagine going through those same emotions but having to play 60 grueling minutes of football every week against teams that wanted nothing more than to take you down.
They were an incredible team, and we fans are lucky to have a group with fire inside every time. There are plenty of teams who would have whined about the obstacles facing them and folded, nevermind get to the SB.
Even though the ending makes me sick to this day, even though I still can't watch the SB, I'll never say that year and that team wasn't something pretty freakin special. Being a Pats fan isn't always easy, but I'll take it everytime.
